I just got my regular old colored Happ buttons today and I performed a very simple experiment. I took my optical mouse's LED and shined it up through the bottom of the plunger, simulating an actual LED inserted in the base of the button housing. This lit up the red (darkest color of the bunch) pretty well. I think I'm just going to drill the bases for white T1 LEDs and secure them with a dab of hot glue.

I was looking at the opaque white buttons on GGG but I think the white Happs might be pretty darn close without costing 3x as much.

Very cool. Post some pics if you get a chance. You must have a brighter LED than what I used.

Here's my version.... even under bright flash it glows quite brightly, for full details on how I did this see my own project thread (it's a bit long for this thread on CP examples).

 Cheers!

@ond

Very Cool! I really like it. I just realized that the "retro-Futurist Cab" is yours! Yeah, I'm daft that way sometimes.

Anyway, I can completely see that style button working with that cab.  We're not worthy!

Ond: THAT IS AWESOME! I just bought 50 white 5mm LEDs with 5v resistors for $5 on Ebay with free shipping from China... I have no idea how anyone makes more than a nickel on something like that.

Depends if you want that kind of effect, or if you want the flashy kind that are translucent.

Does anyone have a control panel layout for Mortal Kombat 3 that is similar to this one for Street Fighter from slagcoin?

I just started a showcase style cabinet with 4 player control panel.  I was going to use the MK3 layout for the two outter players and SF2 layout for the two inner players.  I know you can play with the SF2 straight six layout but I prefer to play MK series the way it was in the arcades.  I know I can also guess or estimate but if someone had the official measurements that would be great.  Thanks in advance!

Wow! lots of nice shiny control panels in this thread. This is my second control panel. I copied a few design elements from some I've seen on here, with the main difference being that I put the dedicated 4 way up close since I mostly play the old verticals.

First attempt at a CP. Its fully removable and could be put back to how it was. Not that anyone would want to considering the condition it was in before i started work on it ! The marquee is temporary til i get one in that i like.

yeah but I didn't build that much.  the machine is a mk4, the right side is still mk4 side art.  i kept the mk4 panel intact and wired it up to a minipac.  then i obtained a mk2 control panel that had extra holes drilled (must have been a sf converstion) so I used that one as my base for other panels.  so now whenever I want a new panel I can just get a rectangle of wood and swap it in, that's what the sf4 panel is, the top piece comes right out after you undo the 2 latches.  so 2 latches and some usb plugs and they are easily swappable.  if i want to play mortal kombat i swap in a whole new control panel box, which is pretty easy too, just 4 bolts.  see my project thread for more info:

@javeryh

Jeez, talk about a frankenpanel!  Think you could squeeze a few more controls in there?!  I hate it when people throw everything (even the kitchen sink) on a single CP and say "look how cool I am".

 Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!  Seriously though, I love the simplicity!

Redid my control panel a few months ago.   Mainly I added an exit button (cheap radio shack button) on the upper-right.  I don't like admin buttons but the EXIT buttons saved me from having to exit games for people.   Also, I changed the cones from silver to black (proper color), upgraded the ball to Electric Ice Version 2.0 and applied the artwork more carefully this time. ;-)

The buttons and trackball are all RGB LED's hooked up to two LED-wizes.  Two U360's, 3" Happs trackball with Electric Ice upgrade (v2.0) and a TurboTwist2 Spinner.  25" wide - Comfort and functionality!

Ok, better late than never. Referring to my CP on page 7, the graphic was downloaded from localarcade.com and it was printed at Samsclub.com. Sam's Club prints a 20x30 poster for about $12. The clear plastic I got at Home Depot. I even used the same image for the sides. It's just hard to get the paper to stick.

Noting too fancy here, it was a NeoGeo conversion metal CP that I put a color photo under with new plexi. Wico joysticks, happ buttons. Maybe someday I'll get the whole thing done with a CP from mamemarquees and replace the black stuff with the entire image. Either way, it looks cool and was fairly cheap and easy to do.

hey mrbones,

if you have not said that it was cheap and easy to do...it just looks like another CP done professionally. So with that said...it being cheap...please do tell some more. were did you get such a picture and how did you get that printed with that lenght.

cheers

Here is mine. Plain but functional.  MDF with Formica laminate.

Player 1 is MagStick Plus, Player 2 is Competition 8 way, 3" X Arcade trackball, TT2 spinner from GGG. 8 buttons per side, 3 mouse buttons and flippers on side.

Mine's got some Frankenpanel-ness to it, but the setup really works for a wide variety of games.

Not strictly a picture of my CP but it is one I made for a forum member.

He wanted a new CP making for his cocktail kit to mount his Sanwa JLWs and OBSN-30 buttons

Original 3/4" plywood CP with holes for Happ joys and buttons:

Finished new 18mm MDF CP to hold the Jap controls:
