Yes, Smog's driver seemed to work well in Win2K, but the cotrol panel wouldn't do anything.

Smog told me that messing with default.ini wouldn't accomplish anything.  He gave me a list of registry entries that could be modified.  I was unable to find any of the keys that he told me to look for.

I'll give your .ini file a try as soon as I get a moment.

I'm still having problems with offscreen reloading :(

Here's some of the settings I'm using

Smog's Drivers
Silvers port of MAME
offscreen_reload        1

...is there something else I need to do to get this going?

Thanks!

What this should mean is that we do not need to use any calibration at all apart from the inbuilt hardware calibration of the gun. Everyone should use the same values:

X Min =  160
X Max =  672
Y Min = 32
Y Max = 224

Ha, funny, that are exactly the values I got from the gun as well. If you look at the sourcecode of my Linux driver, you'll see them in there :)

Also, I believe those values are the most correct ones. For example, if you convert them to Hex, it would become:

X Min =  A0
X Max =  2A0
Y Min = 20
Y Max = EO

which is pretty consistent.

Yes, it was seeing the values in your sourcecode that made me realise all the guns probably used exactly the same values once hardware calibrated.

If you are a experienced at gun tracking feel free to take a look at opwolf3 and figure out how the tracking is operating (although I assume it tracking issues are part of the game rom iteself....)  ;D

I would recommend that any driver authors could add a "topgun" option to hardcode those values. If anyone is using Smog's Guncon2Mouse, you can manually add the values to avoid the (troublesome) calibration by editing the ini file in the 'Program files/Guncon2mouse suite/profiles' directory. e.g.

[GUN#1]
AutoCal= 0
RightEdge= 672
LeftEdge= 160
DownEdge= 224
UpEdge= 32

I have not tested this when using screens larger than the LED positions. And I could be wrong...!
So, If we put this values. Then We can do the same than EMS Driver or a Xbox/Ps2.........Just do the HARDWARE CALIBRATION and forget about configuring axis. Did I get it? ;)

Just wondering, technical difficulties aside - are you guys actually  having FUN with your guns?

Today

After 6 days, and 10 e-mails back and forth, Play-Asia FINALLY agreed to take the gun back for an exchange.

I'll ship my gun back to Hong Kong tomorrow, hopefully I'll get a working gun back that would not die if\when I have a power surge, because I won't go through this a second time around.

Wish me luck...

The cursor in the Windows environment & the crosshair in MAME games is jumping all around the place making accurate shooting impossible.

I'm using WinGun. I've tried reloading the driver and recalibrating the gun to no effect.

It was perfect when I first got everything working!

PS Is the new EMS driver any good or are there still issues???

Sounds like what happens when you are too close to the screen... That and you might want to make sure there aren't any lights on in the room quickly... since floresents may cause some problems...

but it's probably being to close.

Curtains drawn, no lights on (marquee light switched off) & standing over 6 feet away & still the cursor flickers around the screen!

I´m having VERY FUN with this LightGun. Yesterday, I played HODEAD 2 and 3 in my Projector. I was Shooting my Big Wall of my House while killing Zombies taller than me

I tried and failed to use my front projector.

Can you give detailed numbers for:
1)  how big of an image your projector is projecting
2)  How far apart your LED bars are
3)  where they are located relative to your projected image (maybe a picture?)
4)  How far back do you stand to shoot

Thanks
- Frank

1)  how big of an image your projector is projecting>> I´m sorry I can´t tell it, because I have never measure it. It depends how long  I put my Projector from the wall. I´ll try to paste a picture in something like 16 Hours (I´m at work Right Now)
2)  How far apart your LED bars are>> They are pretty far one from the other. You can see at the first page of this trhead. My Set up is very similar to that photo (that one with a green JEEP). Ah!, of course, The game of that photo is "TIME CRISIS 3"

3)  where they are located relative to your projected image (maybe a picture?)>>WEll, I have to put them in the middle of the projection screen :( I have to try a Good "Setup Led Bars" to avoid this. Or maybe the Screen is too Big. As said: I´ll try to add a picture, BTW my Setup is VERY similar to the photo of the first page of this thread.

4)  How far back do you stand to shoot>> I have not measured, but I would say around 5 to 7 meters  :o But I must add that to Shoot from That distance to Big Objectives is a full pleasure.

I´ll try to add a Photo or a Little Video.

hi Frank,

http://www.hkems.com/files/LCD%20TopGun%20-%20ps2.mpg
http://www.hkems.com/files/sony%20ericsson%20%20for%20IR.mpg

Okay, the videos aren't too useful.  Given that the bars are about 16 inches long,
the guy in the video is using a screen of roughly 30 inches high, 40 inches wide, for a 50" diagonal,
which matches the largest success to rate.

You gave me an idea though, the pictures shows I think a 48" vertical, 64 vertical for a 80"
diagonal screen, and the bars are placed pretty much mark the center 'nineth' of the screen.
Now the big question is - how far back do you have to stand for that to be usable?

Twice the distance between the LED bars!

Ah, but it's more complicated than that, because we need the gun to be able to point outside of the led bars.
If you just need to stay within, you can get away with 2-3x the distance.

I found out the light in the dining room was causing the commotion.
with the LED bars also roughly masking the 'middle third',
I was able to get a 85" diagonal screen working, but I had to sit 11 feet back to be able to reach all
four corners.  Luckily, my couch is the perfect distance.

My LED bars are only 18 inches apart.

I took a video, i'll post it shortly

Please Stand 5~6 meter away from the LED stands until
the laser would be light up when aim your ems lightgun to those points
(Top-Left, Top-Right, Bottom-Left, Bottom-Right).

Luckily, my couch is the perfect distance.

How close is the beer cooler. This is MUCH more important than the couch. :)

Also on a side note, I seemed to have broke one of my gun's triggers.
It used to 'click' slightly when I pulled the trigger and the trigger fires.
Now it's just mushy.

You never had to pull the trigger all the way back to fire the gun, but now without the feedback it's harder to judge how far to pull.  It's probably going to break a lot easier now since people will be pulling it full force.  :/

That are GOOD NEWS!! I found that EMS driver is Very Simple to set-up. Just an Hardware calibration, and here you go!!
With the values that silver gave us some posts ago, GUNCON2Mmouse just require the same: A hardware calibration, and play, but for me is impossible to set-up 2 LCD TOP GUN with Guncon2mouse.

BTW It would be nice if EMS increase the cursor/crosshair Speed. I can not remember well , but Guncon2mouse I wouldsay it is the fastest one.

On a side note: I tried to "mix" Guncon2Mouse and EMS driver in order to Set-Up 2 LightGuns and I Succed. Both Drivers can be installed at same time :D:D

I took a look at the tech involved in this and by far and the best tech is the laser dot on the screen which is captured by a seperate camera. In the military the small arms trainers work this way.
I love it when people don't quite understand something, but try to sound like they do.

how many of you (now that you have settled your guns into your cab/setup) play with recoil enabled?

Im still having recoil problems and dont know whether to send the gun back to EMS or not. Other than that, the gun works fine.

I use it... I love the recoil the clicking isn't an issue for me, becuase I generally have the game sound turned up so loud that you don't notice it. ROFL  ;)

I'm working on a new version of the EMS gun.... Fitting the electronics into a real de-actvated sub-machine gun.  ;D and adding a whopping great big solenoid to kick the bolt back.  Mwahhhh Hhaaa Haaa (Evil Laugh)  ;)

2. Which driver should I use ?

3. Are there any special items that I have to set in the driver or the game ?

Need Help here  >:(

I was just checking out quasimoto's website, the guys that make the quasicade arcade cabinet that works on the xbox, ps2 and PC and noticed they are selling these exact light guns, a pair for $200, feel sorry for anyone that actually buys from them esp since the drivers that they come with don't even work properly.  don't know how they can get away with gouging like that

Slightly off-topic, but you guys are the most likely to know - Can anyone with experience with the new Act-Labs dual lightguns answer a question for a MAMEdev here: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=51060.0

I have two LCD TopGun, but I have no idea how to set them up in PC.

1. Does House of the Dead 3 supports two players with LCD TopGun ?

2. Which driver should I use ?

3. Are there any special items that I have to set in the driver or the game ?

Need Help here  >:(

Thanks.

Act-Labs, it isn't  accurate, and more expensive, can't used in LCD or projector , also it can't support PS2 and Xbox~

We are already gave up Act-Labs~
