I just needa copy of championship edition I. I've been stuck in Phoenix all week so I wasn't worried about it. It would be cool if someone could upload them to dropbox .

Hi All,
Just a little off topic but wouldn't it be great if we had a server up and running so us Aussies can show the rest of the world how to play golf, just like Adam Scott at the masters ha ha ha

hi
ok spitfire i must have misread it my bawd
here was the problem in a nut shell
the origanl host >canadian side< was fine
but when we ran trace routing
it sucked going to your side and back, there equ. was just not up to the job
so i had to move the COMPLETE thing
i went to the new host and it's routing and b/w are just fine
the new .bat file u will need is going up to the ftp server shortley
u will copy it,place it in hercules,plus gobalvr tool's
all your involment to this is just to place the .bat
it will take care of the rest.
i hope this clear's the air and we can settle down so i can do what i have to do ?

Hey guys, I'm brand new to this whole thing and am in the process of getting a machine. I'm posting a picture of what the guy has and any input would be greatly appreciated.

Also of note, I'm relatively computer (hardware) savvy and would be more than willing to help out if there's anything that I can do once I get this machine. I've read over the other posts and am not sure where you guys are with unlocking all the courses and players so please let me know if I can be of assistance.

On a more negative note, I'm new to this whole forum stuff so forgive me if I do anything wrong and feel free to let me know if I do. Looking forward to working with everyone on this project.

Has anyone replaced the mini marquee with a small monitor? I was just playing my machine and listening to some music. I thought it would be cool to have a touch screen mp3 jukebox in the machine. Kind of a 2 in 1 machine.

I did that with my GT live cabinet. The mini sign on my PGA cabinet is kinda small, but you could maybe get a cheap 7" android tablet pc to look good there.  Most of the good jukebox programs are setup for a screen res of 800x600 or 1024x768 or something like that.  With a little scripting and modifications you could get there resolution down lower for a screen that size.

Hi All,

Just signed up to this site tonight. I have an original PGA Challenge Edition cabinet and it is currently stock (software wise). I bought it years ago and never put it online as it was for home use. I have replaced the mother board and video card and other things with more powerful versions as I used to know quite a bit about these. I only recently decided to upgrade mine only to find out that the parts I need don't seem to be for sale anymore. I am interested in the upgrade to the unlocked courses and reading through this thread it seemed like nobody has quite solved it yet. If I can help please let me know as I want to do the same thing. I upgraded my cabinet years ago with aftermarket parts and could get the specs if anyone needed. Certain chip sets are key to a motherboard swap and there are a few Nvidia cards that will install easily that run smoother than at least what was being used on the original Challenge edition games. Basically I was tired of some of the courses lagging and mostly eliminated it but got busy with other things. I also eliminated the case and mounted everything directly to the inside of the panel in an old school fashion. Keeps things cool and looks more like a real arcade game to me than the factory set-up and doesn't collect as much dirt and dust as an enclosed fan powered case does. I am in the Chicago area if anyone on the project is local to me shoot me a pm or if you just want to trade some files or info that will work as well.  If you have a factory game and it was made in Indiana than it was made on the assembly line I designed and built years ago as I was the manufacturing engineer that did the games out of Indiana so I know quite a bit about them or at least the Challenge edition. Good to meet you all.

I'm new to the forum as well and just recently finished setting up my Team Challenge machine. It works great but I really would love to have the extra courses. There is a company selling the upgrade on eBay but they are not moving on the $295.00 price. There is also someone selling the Team Challenge All-Access dongle along with the hard drive but not sure if that will work without the discs. He's asking $179 for those 2 things. Again, if there is anything that I can offer the group from my machine that would help, I'm more than willing to do so.

Is there a way to read the dongle to see what's on it and compare the different versions to see what the differences are?

I assume that the courses are already on the hard drive and just need to be unlocked or are they not even on there?

Wish I was more of a programmer but unfortunately I am at the mercy of the smarter guys on here.

there is total of 27 course's
some are just not turned on
if u open hercules/pga_tour..u can count them out for your-self
there is a program that re-write's all course's
it goes by the name or anark
the dongle has crap to do with the course's pre-say >expect canada rev-4<
for any pga there is a total of 4 disk's
1=resuce
the other 3 are game loader's
pga run's on winxp(e)
not windows(xp),and not service pack 3
yes u can easily swap the video card's
gobal-vr did not want to do this because
of about 4 reason's
the first is when lcd came out the white's would blurr
second ati >maker of the 3dfx card< said they would not jump build's
they lied.
there is no hard coding left to be done with turning off the dongle call.
nor is there any hard coding left to do on the lan/dial-up-modem/turnie/and or swap out the dang i/o card.
u can remove the usb (2) card and use your card reader just fine with usb(1).
the mobo is of no real concern
if u want to run mame..thats a total dif story i will not go into.
here is a snip of the pdf

so i have a handy test card 3dfx. i think that will do it right ?
after all it is a vga out right.?. !!wrong wrong!!
no where dose hercules/gobalvr/gobalvr tools  point to it,
nor dose it's system or system32 .dll's.. so as u see we need to edit and add..

now this was just a short example of the need to edit.

ok so a short tourtial is in order here
let's say i have a nvidia 6800 video card, should plug in and work right ?
after all it dose in window's(xp) so why not here.?
well the first problem is u are using window's(e) embedded, this is a striped down verison of window's(xp),they olny took certian driver's.
so what we need to do is tell hercules/gvr/gvr_tool's and in this case nvidia
the new card # ie: 6800,and place the driver's where they need to be.
in this case we point hercules to nvidia, which it already is pointed to.
but now here is the trickey point's

and that is olny a snip of it
u can also if u followed both thread's find how to turn off the bark, and c u are running windowsxp(e)
plus if u hit the window's key on your key board well the game is up and running u can break it down to windows, and that point gain control over your machine
so at that point u can load via usb/cd/flop
what ever turn's your crank
to do real time edit's
do this

pga master text and code set's plus the how and why's

First a bit of a read me here,
in here U will find every bit of a topic I posted at arcade-control's
under globalvr-pga.

what I have done is taken a year and 1/2's worth of work and condensed it to a .text file.

In this text file U will find code needed to change your video card's to other non embedded global-VR brand's.

how to turn OFF your conexit dial up modem.

how to turn ON your on board LAN.

U will find how to get rid of the pesky I/O card, with a replacement opticard

how to bypass the dongle.

plus U will find
how to type a few cmd's to gain control over your running pga,
and do real time edit's.

plus it will be explained to U the difference between windows(xp) and windows(e),and how to expose it on the screen to U.

now on to what u will need to do...

1-U will be required to back-up your current running pga hard drive..this is a must period..
2-U will need to know how to edit
3-u will need to know how to rename file's. ie: .txt to .bat or .dat or .ini or .cfg
4-U will need to know how to load file's into there reseptive .dir's ie: win32/system/system32 and or root.this of course is to the actual running game..this is real time edit..hence the back-up.
5-u will be remnaming file's like nivida to nivida1 so u can rewrite the main file to suit your need's,
the reason for this is u will be required to :repoint: the 3 main file's which are

hercules/gobalvr/gobalvr-tool's

this is required because these 3 file's carry all of the nessary info :pointers: for
the loading of the game

Sounds like you are talking about this 30 page thread:

A bit of reading is nothing compared to the work that went on to make it so I will get to reading. Compiling the info would be a great "sticky" though. Thank you for the time to write the summary below and if I missed the thread you were referring to please let me know.

Ed,

Is the tourney server up and running? Also, where is this condensed .txt document you mentioned above. Those 30 pages in the other thread are going to be a long read for anyone new. You are also mentioning that within the .txt document that you have completed some things that where not fully explained in your original thread (bypassing the dongle for instance).  Let me know, thanks!

I just picked up a Team Challenge machine and having monitor issues. Anyone else have a Kortek MP-KT2182 chassis board. My screen comes on for about 3 minutes and then the vertical collapses. I pulled everything out and did not find any obvious caps blown or bad soldered pins. I also forgot to take a picture of the power cable can someone tell me which way that should be plugged in or does it matter? black and white cable .

I also have a Championship III that I have a 19" LCD mounted in the cab. I really want to get this bigger monitor working.

HELP !!!

The power cable should be keyed so it only plugs in one way.

turn up your screen control a bit (not too much though) it's on the big black transformer with the thick wire that goes to the tube.

don't go crazy or you'll blow it up, just turn it up enough that the black is still black and not gray

You may also want to go into the diagnostics menu and adjust the monitor gamma (the in game diagnostics and not the monitor itself).  You can do this by pressing the service button usually located within the coin door.  This really can make the difference depending on your set up.

adjusting the gamma is what fixed mine from being too dark. it looks great now.

What is the biggest LCD someone has put INSIDE their cabinet?  My monitor is having trouble (power supply section) and I am thinking about picking up an LCD of craigslist to throw into the game instead of spending even more to have my monitor repaired.  I have a separate thread going in the "Monitor/Video" section if you want to see the issues my monitor is having.

Anyone successfully fit a 32"?  If so, did you pull it from the case?  I believe the game is only 30" wide?  I'll have to go measure the inner width when I get home.

Thanks

Thanks for the lead!  I have sent him an email.  I just don't want to spend $500+ on a 26" arcade LCD when I can get a 50" for that price and just turn it into a pedestal.  Problem is...I don't have $500...so I need a different solution.

I was pondering these exact same options a while back before I finally decided to just go the pedestal route.  I ultimately found that the Vizio 29" Razor LCD (the largest widescreen LCD I could find that would fit in the cab) would be a perfect solution for under $250! Here is a copy of part of my post from the other PGA thread.  I also designed a monitor bezel for this and it can be viewed there as well.  The monitor bezel can be seen below.  If you decide to do something like this and would like the monitor bezel printed let me know as I print vinyl graphics and decals as my full time job and I would be happy to help you out.  We may have to find a workaround for the PGA and EA Sports logos as I'm not sure if either organization would have issues with their logo being printed for a one time use or not.  PM me and we can discuss that further.  Here is a link to that page if you want to read everything (scroll to the middle).  http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,115417.600.html

I didn't want to put another regular monitor in there as I wanted to upgrade to widescreen (16:9) LCD/LED. The problem with widescreen LCDs and arcade cabinets that I've found is width of the cabinet can make certain LCDs look small in general because widescreen (16:9 format) are wider and lose a little height in the process.

So my goal was to fit the biggest LCD widescreen TV I could find inside the 27" of space that I have in the cabinet. I also wanted to fill in the areas above and below the screen with a custom printed bezel so that the screen wasn't lost in a space of blackness making it look smaller. So this is what I've come up with so far.

The TV I plan to get is a VIZIO Razor 29" Widescreen Format LCD HDTV. It's 26.42" wide which will fit PERFECTLY inside the cabinet! It has VGA (what we should all be using with our PGAs) as well. The link is here http://store.vizio.com/led-lcd-hdtvs/e291a1.html and it can be found for about $250 at Walmart, Costco, etc.

I can understand that.  I'm not mass producing these things or anything.  I just feel that the game designers should be given credit for the game they created.  With that being said, I have yet to actually print one of these but I would like to for my next PGA cabinet that I install the 29" LCD on.  I recently bought three towers and two of them had PGA with ALL ACCESS HDs and security dongles so that was a nice surprise!

Please post pics when you do this. I have seen a widescreen monitor in the PGA cab and I wasn't thrilled. I guess the 4:3 format spoiled me. The game I saw had a black bezel, so that could have added to my dissatisfaction.
