WG9800 Problem or Maybe VGA3000?????
« on: March 17, 2011, 10:05:16 pm »
I don't know exactly how to descibe this but I just noticed it this week.

I have a WG9800 & VGA3000

When Im playing lets say ROBOTRON...the right side of the screen the guys are "fatter" than the guys at the left side of the screen..not super fat..but about 1/4 - 1/2 more width than the left side.

when playing scrolling games (rolling thunder, shinobi) games that scroll right to left...its the same thing but very noticable. if there is evenly placed bricks(like in super mario bros) on the ground...they all look normal width execpt the last 2..they are streched (as well as everything in the last 2 inches of Y axis) <<<---EDIT : Actually X Axis NOT Y

Vertical games look fine.

Has anyone ever experienced something like this? What should I check? Is this a simple fix or something major? ...this also happens in the windows enviorment too.  Would a cap kit fix this? If so...I've read http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=80699.0 but not too sure what caps I need.

Thanks
Sav

i've noticed this issue too... usually if i swapped a chassis from the same manufacturer but from a curved tube to a flat tube (or vice versa).

i think it is a cap..... something controlling the "horizontal linearity"

i haven't solved my issues yet, we have a few hundred machines so getting it working is top priority...making it look perfect is a little lower down.

Thanks for the info....I'll try replacing the caps.

Is there a cap kit for the d9800?

Subject: WG9800 - help

Hi, Just wondering if you have a cap kit for a wg9800?

I posted a message at the link below describing my problem

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=110455.0

just wondering if you ever experience this before and if I order a cap kit..will it solve my problem?

thank you very much for your time

------JOHNS REPLY BELOW---------------------------------------------

A cap kit for the D9800 was never put together but if you are in need of a complete chassis those we still stock and the part number for that is: PCBKIT9810-08S.

As for the linearity problem that can be caused by these following parts,Q222, Q223along with Q243 if you develop a horiz size problem.

Hi thanks for the reply!

I think I might of not correctly descibed my problem...i think indeed it lies on the horizonal.  the last two inches on the right side of my monitor, everything is "streched" to fill the screen. I think you nailed the problem.

can you give me a price quote of parts Q222, Q223 and Q243?

and what are exactly are these parts listed above?

thank you very much for your help..i really appriciate it!

Waiting on a answer .....

Wow.... I have the WG9800 and the AVGA3000 as well, wondering if I will have this issue in the future.... Maybe I should try playing Robotron to see if I have the same issue?

Would you mind making a YouTube video explaining the issue you're seeing? Please post back the reply from Wells Gardner as well.... I'm interested in this.

Thanks,

-Pete

this is not a monitor fault,it's the exact issue almost all multisync monitors get with a 15khz signal
very common on wei ya 3129 also, side compression on the right hand side on 15khz

I got a email back from john.....

----------------------------------------
Here are the part numbers for the following components.

Q222: 2EMOS-IRF634IBK

Q223: 2EMOS-IRF654IBK

Q243: 2EQTR-C4370XX00

Call our parts dept. at 1-708-290-2169.
--------------------------------------------------------

I'll give them a call tomorrow and get the prices for each...

PS ...GRANTSPAIN ......  so from what Im gathering from your reply is..... what im seeing is "common", that happens to multisync monitors that use 15khz.....?  with your experience with this issue.....how does one fix this?  am I on the right track by contacting WG?  when you say "side compression" on the right side...do you mean that my monitor is loosing the side compression on the right side and thats why the last two inchs on the x axis is streched....?

Thanks!!!  :applaud:

yes this is very common-ask any egret 3 or awsd owner
a good way to prove whats happening is input a standard pc signal(max svga)to the monitor,I bet you get a perfect geometry picture
then input a standard 15hz signal(i.e jamma board),i think this will also give a good geometry picture
i am not 100% sure but the issue you see is something to do with s-correction

of course it could be just a horizontal linearity fault but the above tests will prove that

those transistors John sent you the part number look to me to be mosfets and most probably on the frequency switching circuit-i am not sure if one of those leaky would this issue or not
