Strange button configurations?
« on: April 30, 2003, 02:17:31 am »
what games have odd configurations, or use just buttons only for control? I need to design a button layout to the left of my Trackball. I was just gonna put two buttons, but perhaps I should do something else since I have the space..?

Any ideas?

Thanks!

A large percentage of Space Invaders type games used buttons only.

Then there are the vectors. A lot of vector games were button only.

A set of two on the left (left, right), with three on the right (thrust, fire, hyperspace) should work for most button games.

Missile Command (trackball game) has three buttons to the left of the TB.

Wasn't a couple all button games with six buttons: left, right and reverse on the left side, fire and thrust to the right side, and hyperspace in the middle?  You could do a three left and three right button arangement.   That's what I have on my "test" trackball CP, all painted and, um, still in "testing" phase. Not sure when the non-test TB cp will be made...

yes i am aware of asteroids..and it has 2 on left, 2 on right, one in middle. What other games are there?

Also note, I only have space to the LEFT of my TB, the right of it has a 4-way stick/buttons in place..

??? Arent there some that are like this:

   o
 o  o
   o

OH, and while we're at it, what is the maximum # of buttons I would need for any of the 4-way games? I was planning on placing only 2. I can't think of any 4-way games that use use more then 2 buttons.

There are a few 4-way games that use 3 or 4. I had to clear a few of them from my ROM folders when I set up my 4-way 2 button cabinet.

Not an answer to your last question but Track & Field uses 3 buttons and no joystick.

Tetris Plus and Tetris Plus 2. Both of which are 4-way with 3 buttons.
