Favourite attract sounds / videos

What are your favourite games you like to run while you aren't using the cab?

I've always liked Mortal Kombat I -- in between the fighting demos, you'd hear a character's name spoken and see a choppy motion video of a character doing some movements. The cool thing is, I believe the fighting scenes were all silent, the only sounds where during the videos.

So, what's your fav?  ;D

I'll usually let my machine run the Dragon's Lair or Space Ace attract mode with the sound set to once every 8 times.

I used AdvanceMame which cycles games.  I set them to play for 5 minutes and then stop.  Most of the games I like seem to be silent during the attract mode.  Defender has the best game sounds IMO but is silent during the attract screen.

My favorite "attract" sound is actually from a pinball game, Cyclone.  There is an amusement park vendor who once in a while says "Hey you!  With the face! Steeeeep right up".

I agree that Dragon's Lair is a pretty awesome attract mode.  Who *doesn't* have that intro memorized?   :)

ganbare ginkun

i like the funky music and humorous animation.

mad motor

its funny how a guy is flipping the bird in the attract mode.

others i like are galaga, dig dug, jungle king, qbert, spyhunter, and out run. anything from the early 80's that cycles through a short sample of sound effects every few minutes.

* and id nominate SpyHunter 2 as the worlds worst video game attract mode. no sound and a text only attract screen. those machines must of had screen burn-in after the first week of operation.

I came into this thread to say Dragon's Lair and Space Ace.  It was impossible to walk past these games and NOT stop and watch.

I haven't tried Dragon's Lair, I'll have to fire that up once I upgrade my romset.

The past week I've had Puzzle De Pon on, and every once inawhile I hear that Neo Geo jingle which surprisingly hasn't driven me crazy yet.

I tried getting Advancemame going but ran into some issues. I'll try again since you can cycle the games, sounds like a great idea!

TMNT, it always cracked me up.  At a pizza shop they had all the attract modes silent...except for the TMNT cabinet.  You'd be sitting there with the big projection screen showing channel 5, then every couple minutes the cabinet would bust out with the TMNT theme.
Still in the collecting parts and ideas phase of cabinet building.

I like to leave mine on either Strider, Shinobi, or Street Fighter 2.

I love to hear Street Fighter on in the background at the crib no matter what I'm doing....takes me back to a time when I was a CONTENDER!! ;D....oh yeah...... 8)

moonwalker, because when you leave it on during the demo he does that cool dance and the spotlights come on, and you got michael jackson music playing.

I'm glad I saw this thread. The other day I was actually trying to think of a really good attract mode to leave my cabinet on. My son is 14 months old and loves to "play" the arcade. He pushes buttons and waggles the joystick like crazy, laughing the whole time. So I tried to find an attract mode that would keep his attention, while he was sitting there. I just ended up putting it on street fighter and he enjoyed it.

for the kid, how about liquid kids? that sure is cute  :D

on my machine it depends on whether i feel like adjusting the volume or not. for silent i use either asteroids or galaxians depending on which way the screen is rotated. if i want sound then to me the best horizantal is rezon. its a great screen saver since there is nothing that stays in one spot. and it has all those cool technical diagrams happening. for vertical galaga is great.

otherwise i just leave it on whatever game i last played. i like to leave it on so that whoever drops by can have a go, even when im not around. the instruction placard doesnt show any tab stuff so its hard for anyone to get into any trouble...

The game that SHOULD have had the best attract sounds, but didn't IIRC was Sinistar.

I still get chills when I hear "I Hunger".

Check out dimahoo.  That one cracks me up :)

I'd be apt to just let galaga run for the most part because I love the sound effects.
