Mortal Kombat button setup ARGGGG
« on: January 31, 2010, 04:16:33 pm »
How in the world do you setup buttons in mame? Every game in mame I setup up is easy as pie BUT Mortal Kombat has a mind of its own. All the Mortal Kombats are same way. How do I setup buttons? I have 8 buttons total. I want button 1 (low punch)
button 2 (Block)
button 3 (low kick)
button 4 SKIP
button 5 (high punch)
button 6 (run)
button 7 (high kick)
button 8 SKIP

My buttons are setup like this
0000
0000

I'm guessing being that I have to skip button 4 is where I'm having trouble. Help

Set them up in game. Press <tab> and then Select Input (General) and then Player1 controls. If you want MK to have different buttons, then select Input (This Game) and configure your controls as you like.

Are you editing your config for all games or the ones for the current game that you've got loaded?

MK is a pain in the ass to setup.

If I remember right the buttons are assigned like this.

123
45

1 High Punch
2 Block
3 High Kick
4 Low punch
5 low kick

so if you have this

123
456

and have it setup for SF you need to do is go into your mame menu and scroll down to button 5 in the menu and press enter, escape (or whatever buttons you have set to confirm and clear).  This will clear the button mapping.  Then press enter again and push what button you want to be low kick.

That should do it I think.

I got it. OMG that was a pain in the ass. The run button was the one messing me up. What helped was starting game then goto into service mode and pick test button screen. So I was able to test buttons config on the fly. Will I have same problem on street fighters etc?

SF is easy.

1-jab (lp)
2-strong (mp)
3-fierce (h p)
4-short (lk)
5-forward (mk)
6-roundhouse (hk)

MK set up is easy as pie! just go into the test menu, switch/input test  then map 1 key at a time.

If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

It is simple to setup; the key is like Jack said - clear the control mapping first with the Esc button. I can see where you would get all whacked out if you had multiple controls for each button mapping.
