Issue with CPWizard and MaLa
« on: December 03, 2009, 10:54:46 am »
Is anyone running CPWizard with it set to display using the show key (without using the bezel patch)? I have having an issue where it will take a long time to display when MaLa is running, but if it isn't running (e.g. I launch MAME from a command line) CPWizard behaves just fine.

Details can be found here:
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=98089.msg1040660#msg1040660

Also, loadman, should MaLa hide when MAME launches?

*Edit: I should note that I'm running MaLa 1.05, not the 1.6 beta.

More Details please..?

What are you experiencing?

MaLa does not hide. Mame runs over the top and mala goes to sleep and waits for mame to quit before waking up

I'll summarize the issues I am having in conjunction with CPWizard:

If I DO NOT set MaLa to "reorganize layout", it happens like this... I launch a game from MaLa, then show the CPWizard screen, then hide the CPWizard screen and return to MAME. When I exit MAME and return to MaLa I see a blank layout background image, but I can hear the video preview playing and hear the menu selection change when I move the joystick. If I exit up the MaLa tree, the MaLa menu displays just fine.

If I tick the "reorganize layout" box in MaLa, it fixes the above issue but sometimes results in loss of focus.

Regardless of the above setting, after the first time displaying a CPWizard screen and hiding it, it takes 10-15 seconds to show the screen. As an example, I would launch a game from MaLa, and from MAME I would show the CPWizard screen. MAME hides, showing the MaLa "Starting..." window behind it. But it sits here for about 10-15 seconds until finally the CPWizard screen is able to show. I know it is related to MaLa because if I just launch a MAME game from the command line, the delay doesn't happen.

And I was asking about hiding MaLa after game launch because there is moment while MAME disappears before the CPWizard screen shows and I can see the "Starting..." window for a brief time. Likewise when I hide the CPW screen, I can see the MaLa Starting window briefly before MAME returns.

Hmmm Well I recommended the latest beta for a start.

I guess the question is how do you set up CPWizard with mala to work properly. I don't know that answer to that as I don't use it.

I tried the beta with the same result. I also installed ShanMan's Focus Logger, so I will post the results here when I get a chance - hopefulyl that will shed some light on what is happening.

Did this ever get resolved?  I am just now trying CPViewer with MaLa and running in to similar problems.  If I run mame from command line, then CPViewer pops up quickly (little to no delay).  If I run MAME through MALA and try to view CPViewer it takes 15-20 seconds.  I already have CPViewer running minimized before running mala.

I just got into CPwizard this morning and have a similiar but different issue. I have CPViewer set to come up when I pause mame - but when I exit Cpwizard it just goes back to mala and leaves mame running minimized. I'm pretty sure it's CP wizard but I thought i'd share my story here in case someone has a solution!

I thought I was the only one with this problem... Is there a solution for this? CPViewer works instantly for my other emulators (though its the same screen for every game). MAME takes forever, though only when run through MaLa. Any ideas?

You might post this on the software forum, the guy who developed cpwizard (Headkaze?) posts here regularly.

To me, it's hard to tell whether this because of MaLa, CPViewer, or neither. I think I posted something in the software forum a while back, and didn't get a response. I'll try again.

I also just found this issue.  I've been running CPWizard 2.21 since it was released in 2009 - but I've recently been updating some of the software on my cab (including Mala and MAME).  I've been running the latest beta Mala 1.745 along with CPWizard 2.21 with no issues for about a week.  When I upgraded this morning to the latest CPWizard 2.37 I got massive delays when calling up CPWizard from within MAME launched by Mala.

Fortunately I backed up the entire CPWizard folder before upgrading, and I had an old copy of v2.21, so I was able to uninstall CPWizard 2.37, reinstall 2.21, and copy over my layout and ini files.

Like the previous poster, I'm not sure if this is an issue with Mala or CPWizard - but I thought I'd post my findings in case others had the same issue.

I'm currently running a 2.8GHz P4, WinXP, 1 gig RAM, Mala 1.745, MAME 143, CPWizard 2.21

So are you saying that an older version of cpwizard fixed your problems?

Going back to v2.21 with my original layout/ini file did fix my problem.  Or maybe I just had a bad install of v2.37, since I installed it overtop v2.21 and used the same layout/ini files?

I also posted about this in the big CPWizard thread in the Software forum yesterday.  To help HeadKaze debug this, this morning I decided to uninstall 2.21 completely and reinstall 2.37, and then recreate my layout/ini from scratch.

So far I've had a "HiToText.exe" crash a few times (so I disabled "High Scores" and "My High Scores") and a few delays - but most of the time it seems to work well.  I haven't had a complete "loss of focus" issue so far.
