How do you guys mount your lcd monitors ?
« on: December 02, 2009, 05:30:40 am »
Hi guys. I bought a nice 21.5 inch lcd monitor for my cab. Does anyone know any good ways to mount it in the cab ?  I will buy a mount kit if i need to but i thought someone might have a better idea. Thanks

This is the monitor i bought if it helps.

I mounted my 19 inch monitor on a MDF board 12 mm thick and 55X15cm. Then I drilled four holes, making a square like the VESA mount on the back of my LCD screen.

Bougth some longer screws to hold the screen in the home made mount, and I fixed the MDF board to the sides with ledgers.

Really simple and cheap.

I made a very bad drawing showing what I'we done

Often the foot of a LCD screen has a vesa-mount built in under the plastic case, and 1 or 2 big bolts to attach this to the foot. Use that hidden mounting plate for even easier fixing and positioning.

Excuse me, that model does not have a center attaching foot. Maybe you can find a non-working old LCD.

I bought the above mount for $10 shipped with the intention of using it for my desktop 24" monitor but didn't line up so I ended up using it for my 17" LCD monitor below for my bartop arcade cabinet.

Bartop = portable, correct?  That mount will not lock the monitor onto the mount if the cab is tipped.  What precautions do you have to keep the screen from becoming dislodged during transport?

All I did for my cab was install a shelf that the monitor would just rest upon. I have a really nice adjustable stand with about 1 ft of vertical play and about 60 degrees of rotation. This is nice for me because it allows me to experiment with viewing angles without having to commit to one. When I want to move the cab I simply unplug the two cables to the monitor and take it out through the back door.

I am running a 16:10 30" lcd.

bkenobi are you the same bkenobi on the gameEx forum? Just curious.

Bartop = sits on top of a bar not portable.  The only way I can see this coming off the mount is if I flipped the entire cabinet upside down.  I could put a piece of wood strapping on the inside to keep it secure but I don't really plan on moving this around too much and it sort of locks when in place on the mount.

Don't actually know. Had some lying around that fitted.

You could just measure the srews that's already used and the add the depth of the board.. Should be pretty easy.

I think the screws for the vesa mount on my LCD were 4 mm.

I have a 19" Dell that I decased, and will use the vesa mounting screws on the back into a peice of wood, like above in the first example.  I will then use pocket screws to get the wood mounted in my cab.  Did basically the same on my jukebox too.

Pictures of the decased LCD for my cab -

Placed the old case, reassembled without the guts, on a coworkers desk to replace his monitor.

Picture of the same type of idea from my jukebox while building it, LCD wasn't decased for it -
