Ikaruga CP Layout
« on: November 03, 2009, 07:21:40 pm »
Since I have arcade stick goodness for my 360, I need some button references.  Namely, I'm trying to find out what the Ikaruga arcade CP layout is, that is, which buttons are which function on the real machine.  That way I can change my layout to match the arcade version.  Obviously the gamepad layout just translates oddly to the arcade stick. :X  I googled around but couldn't find an actual photo of a labled Ikaruga CP.

All I've found so far is how they were setup, not the layout itself....

BUTTON 1 = Fires the Ikaruga's machinegun. Holding onto Fire will shoot a
continuous dual stream of bullets, while tapping Fire will shoot a single
bullet per tap.

BUTTON 2 = Changes polarity. In Ikaruga, your ship has two forms: black and
white. How this plays into the game is explained below.

BUTTON 1 + BUTTON 2 = Executes an Energy Release attack.
Depending on how much energy is stored within the energy bar, several energy
homing missiles will fire out and cause incredible damage toward enemies
on-screen. This powerful attack can even go through obstructions.

Just two buttons?  Hmm, for console the super weapon is mapped to a third button.

I'm presuming that's right to left?

What I read was button 3 is button 1 and 2 combined.

Yeah, it seems to have an option to enable or disable the super by pressing attack and switch at the same time.

Ya know, I'm suprised that there isn't a compiled list of arcade panel mappings for console arcade sticks.  Both due to the rise in popularity of sticks and that the default console layouts are just jibberish scrambled crap when directly applied to an arcade stick.

My xbox Stick is a japanese 6 button layout, with the bottom arc being A B RB which works great with the default mappings on Ikaruga on XBLA.

I think its A - Fire, B - Flip, RB - Bomb

I'm assuming you've seen this thread?

He hasn't updated the thread in a while, but there are some good suggestions re: artwork and such in there. I hope he gets to finish this project, Ikaruga is a great game, worthy of having a dedicated stand-up cabinet

I'm doing a Ikaruga vs Space Invaders theme for one of my Naomi's. It's gonna be teh sex  :D

Its going to be called Evolution, or rather 進化させ, with the idea that Ikaruga is the eventual evolution of Space Invaders and also because it will contain a mame setup which pretty much covers the evolution of games.

Ond is very kindly drawing me some artwork for it. I'm really looking forward to continuing with it once I have a couple of things out of the way  ;D

It was on the gamecube too. I'm not sure about other platforms. There is also a flash 'version' of it [here]

I just bought a new Sanwa PFX tri-sync for mine so I can have Mame, Naomi, 360, DC, Jamma/MVS and Saturn all in one cab and running at the right resolutions. A VGA switch is deffo a must. It will just about be the perfect all in one cab for me.  :)

Japanese only on Dreamcast.  (But the menus are good in English)
All regions on GameCube but I heard it was rare.  I also don't get why it was never released on PS2 instead, seems like the better platform to target.
The Xbox Live Arcade version however is sadly lacking an attract mode, but it supports all resolutions and left and right screen rotation.  It'll even rotate for wide screen monitors and even put text above in the top and bottom letter boxes.

Like so:

Yeah the tate option on the DC version is fantastic. Ikaruga on a vertical 29" 4:3 31k monitor looks the dogs danglies.  :afro:

When I rebuild one of my Naomi's I may leave the screen tate'd just for Ikaruga, Border Down and other tate games.

Its a shame the Naomi's don't have the monitor on a pivot like the Egrets etc, that really would be the ultimate cab for me. Saying that, vertical games rotated are not too shabby on a horiznotal 29"  :)

What I want to know is how the compressed DC ISO only weighs in at 17MB or whatever stupidly small size it is.

Must have mixed up something here, Border Down is a horizontal game...
