Copying a MAME Setup?
« on: September 20, 2009, 07:51:32 am »
OK, if I set up MAME exactly how I want it to run on one computer in, say, "C:\Arcade" then if I just copy that folder and everything in it to another computer will MAME run exactly the same?

Yes it should do.  I don't think MAME stores anything in the registry.

Mame doesn't but several other programs related to Mame do. My front end, for example, uses some system files that need to be installed prior to use. I also have some other add-ons that require .net 2.0 framework to run properly.

So I guess the answer to your question is 'maybe.'

Man, will my cab EVER be finished?

I use Mala RC 1.0 with MAME .109 and I have burned the image to a DVD.  I only have 450 games that I like and have culled all of the artwork etc. that I do not need.
I have successfully copied this image to another computer without an issue.
You will, however, be required to maintain your directory structure, otherwise you will need to re-map your paths i.e. C:\Arcade as is in your case.
Once that is done, I re-run the MALA installation file, even though MALA is in the image, so that any registry values are re-applied to the new computer.
So far it works for me.  :D
Galaga... Was there any other game?

Awesome.  This is for a MAME and MaLa setup.  I'm hoping to finally sort out my DK today and I have 5 new laptops I can tinker with.
