And is this onboard audio or an audio card?
Are you installing drivers from a factory disk for the audio or just using a WindowXP disc?

We need the motherboard manufacturer, model # or if the computer is an out of the box type (Dell, Gateway, E-Machines) we need that number too.

also, check this basic idea:

Is the master volume or wave muted?

In your Control Panel, do you have any sound drivers?

another way to check to see if you have any drivers:

Also, a small program that will help you tremendously is PC Wizard. It will tell you more about your computer than you really wanted to know.

http://www.cpuid.com/download/pcwizard/pcw2009_v190.exe

Download and install.

Run after the install. Click the 'Hardware' tab on the left. On the right you will see the mainboard manufacturer.

You give us this info, we can get you the sound drivers. Unless the onboard sound has fizzled out on you. That is unlikely to have happened, but it is a remote chance.

Now, do your part, give us the correct info, we'll be glad to help!

Goto this web page from compaq:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=pv-42532-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3239113&os=228&lang=en

You will find the driver download on the page.

Download it, then install it. Re-start the computer then check to see if this didnt solve the problem. I'm willing to bet it does.

So your saying you have windows XP service pack 1. You need to do a windows XP update.

Click below for a windows XP service pack 3 update. The download is 316mb and may take a few minutes to download ,but you will at least be up to date and I bet that your audio issue will go away also!

Click above for windows XP service pack 3 update.

Hope this helps,
