Wire popped out of the Jamma Plug
« on: September 12, 2009, 04:50:06 pm »
One of the wires came out of the jamma plug.  How the hell do I get it back in there?  Can I just solder it to the right spot on the board or bad idea?

jam the pin back in?
you can solder it to the board, but that defeats the convenience of a JAMMA adapter

the pin itself didn't come out of the plug.  Only the wire popped out of the pin.  I can't seem to get the pin out either to get the wire back in.  Thanks for the help.

no, the pin is recessed in the plug, I cannot figure out how to get it out of there.

strip the wire a little and wedge it between the pin and the plastic; it should be fine as long as you dont rock the machine , heh

I only advise against soldering to the board because it makes swapping games exceedingly difficult

There is a tab between the pin and the plastic that you need to depress.
They make a special tool for it, but I use a VERY small pin punch to poke in between them.
Unplug the harness and look down through it from the side that plugs in to the board.

Use one of those tiny screw drivers for eye glasses, use it to squeeze the pin and push it out.

Those plugs are easy to bend too far (if they are anything like standard DB style ones).  Once you get it out, you may have to bend it back to the right shape.  Be careful not to over do it though as the metal could fatigue and break off.  If that happens, the plug won't stay in place and you will need a new one.

It happens to the....um, well you know. (Heheheheh.)

I had a tab break off, and thought I tried my small small screwdrivers and anything else without success. I'll try again. Also, notice there are tabs that aren't connected to wires, meaning they're handy replacements.
