Wheels instead of Leg levelers
« on: September 07, 2009, 12:28:59 pm »
Dedicated Golden Tee Cab.  I wanna put wheels on it, something like this:
http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1vZ1xgk/R-100199256/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053
Right now it has recessed wheels in the back, and four leg levelers.  Would it work if I changed it to these wheels?  No Big deal right?

You will be raising the cab up several inches.  Also, if you aren't careful when moving it might be possible to put too much load on a single wheel so you could damage it.  Depending on the surface where you have your cab (carpet, wood, etc) you could put significantly more pressure on the ground than with leg levelers (just look at the contact area of these vs that of leg levelers).

As long as you have thought about these things, I don't see a problem using these.

im curious to hear from some people who have done this, i have been toying the same idea as well.

and i have about a dozen sitting around already.

i dont think pressure would be a issue leg levelers are'nt much larger then say a quarter or so around anyway so it's not like they've got a lot of surface area to start with.

getting the cab a inch off the ground might be desirable anyway especially if you have carpet like i suspect most of us do.

the question i have is once on swivels how likely are they to move around?  the ones i have on hand dont have breaks, but even the ones with breaks will have some movement but as heavy as cabs are (roughly 300lbs) that might not be a issue.
Anyone got change for a dollar?

Here's a thread that discussed this with details from various people who have done it.

i havent installed wheels on mine, but i can say that if you have your cabinet in a carpeted room, those plastic furniture slider things are awesome.  i have them under both of my cabinets, and they are pretty easy to slide around if i need to work on them.  just dont go buy the absolute cheapest ones you can find.  i got a pack of really cheap ones and the plastic was so thin, they just folded underneath the couch...i cant imagine they would work well with a cabinet. I then bought some better ones at walmart and they worked great.  my cabinet stays where i want it, but yet it is easy to slide around if i need to get behind it.

I have wheels on my cab. I bought them from divemaster127. My cabinet rocks a little during intense two player gaming, but it's fine for single player. I'm always needing access to the back of the cab, so wheels are a must for me.

I put wheels on mine as it was the only way of moving the behemoth...rock solid during play and each wheel is rated for 200lbs so not too worried.  I have 4 wheels sharing the load.

Mine are on carpet and I use sliders under the leg levelers as well.  I used ones that were well oversized to help distribute the load so it would sit on top of the carpet and not just sink in.  I have ones the same size as the leg levelers on my pinball and they tend to sink in and not slide well (I like being able to bump the pin and it takes more force than I would prefer).  Anyway, I've been really happy with the sliders but they won't help me move anything around the house whereas wheels would.

I too need to access the back of my cab all the time, so have installed wheels.

I have no rock, however, my 4 wheels are all NON swivel type. I have also mounted all 4 wheels to a piece of floor board wood that is cut to be approx 1/4-1/2 inch bigger both longer and wider than the base of the cab.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the info.  The cabinet has the recessed wheels in the back already, so I think I'm going to stick with the levelers.  The bottom of the cab is very shallow, I don't want it off the ground 3 inches, and I really don't want to hack the cabinet up.  Thanks again.

Mine are fixed as well. The rocking I have could be due to the amount of give in the floor.
