Mapping volume up and down buttons
« on: August 31, 2009, 04:38:41 pm »
Hi,

I want to map volume buttons to turn the volume up and down with hotkeys.  I tried some programs but they all seem to use the windows key along with another key (for example win+u for volume up).  This causes problems with mame and windows in general when I tried it (I am using an i-pac).

What I would like to do is to find a way to map a volume up system button (like the multimedia buttons on the front of a laptop for instance).  Does anyone know how to do this.  Or if you have suggestions on how to map the volume up and volume down to a pushbutton using an i-pac let me know.

Thank you.

CabVol should work for you.  It uses a hotkey, but it doesn't have to be the Windows key, and it works fine with the IPAC.

Second that. Cabvol works great, esp with a hotkey and spinner.

I use CabVol and it works great.  Another vote from me for a great program.

I use Volume Tray 2.0 which is configurable to any key. It boots up at 50% volume and lets you adjust the volume either direction by tapping on the chosen up and down keys. It's freeware:

some games are louder then others, would be nice if mame saved the master volume slider.
Anyone got change for a dollar?

On a similar topic...

Is there a way of adjusting the volume in MAME directly, so a button for up and another for down? As opposed to bringing up the master volume then using the stick.

Have you mapped a shifted function from your IPAC to the tilde ~ key ?

You can then change volume in mame during gameplay..

Ms. Pacman Original Cocktail with Non destructive mod to Groovy Arcade Linux with All 4way Vertical Cocktail capable 2 button or less games.

Neo Geo MVS Mame Cab Running Hyperspin, 25" Nanao Arcade Monitor, Mini-pac, ATI Radeon HD 4850 (ATOM-15), IL 8 Way Euro-Sticks from Paradise Arcade, Win XP 64bit, and tons of other junk.

Maybe I didn't explain myself very well. Is there a way of configuring a volume up and a volume down button without bringing up the master volume using the tilde key?
