MY NEXT PROJECT
« on: August 15, 2009, 12:50:40 pm »

things to do.

sell the extra game boards to recouperate some money.
clean it good.
remove the crappy artwork off the glass and marquee.
replace the cash box door.prob is it is laminated board, but,i sort it.
replace the arcabe cab stand, what it sits on,as its pretty beat.
clean and respray the cash door.
replace the tmolding.
get better artwork on there.
sort better controls for the cp,2 quality sticks with 6 buttons each.

other than that its a jamma cab, there is a thin black band on the right side of the minitor if anyone knows whats causing it,its an hantarex monitor i am all ears.

its in pretty good shape,i think its fair to say its old and been around,i think it is not a custom made cab.if you have a clue what cab it is so i am all ears once again.

i got a mame on the go already so this one will be slow,i hope to update my thread for the mame cab sometime this week coming.

this cab was £220 off ebay, buy now and get a heap of boards with it,double dragon is in there with some others.

its a good one though.

Looks like a nice clean cab. I've seen these before and the only drawback is that the CP looks a little small.

Cabs in the UK are much pricier than in the US. In the States it's like "Oh yeah... I have a Pacman and three DKs I want rid of... take the lot for 300 bucks".  :P  OK I know it's not that good over there but there is a big disparity.

yes,the cp is little small but, still i will sort something out 2 player 6 buttons each.

yes,i completely understand you like a lot of other brits will about price.an american will go "yikes, you payed like 350 bucks for a jamma cab" yeparoony!

was tinkering and i think my black band prob is the jamma copnnector but,i am wandering if its a setting as 1 board has actualy played in full screen.might be board related.

to throw into the bargain i was just rooting round in it,i found £1,yep,1 whole pound so just £219 to go and i got my dosh back.i found tetris board screwed under the board the monitors chassis is on and it works, although i got a black line on the right hand side of the monitor.

i cant seem to find anything that moves the picture from left to right.

jobs done so far:

removed the artwork from sides and marquee.

i cleaned the glass, there are a few spots where there is some glue left from the artwork that was there but,its pretty clean.

cleaned the cab,i find they have this weird smell, smoke, aftershave, beer! so i gave it the general once over and removed a lot of that horrible smell and paint splashs etc.it could still do with more cleaning.

thanks to someone in the monitor topic forum i got the horizontal sorted on the monitor (no more black band) i have switched the monitor to the vertical position.

i removed the cp,i got the buttons off and the ugly joysticks, will stick some ultimarc ones in i got already.i cleaned the cp,as i was removing the paint spray i noticed there was a rubbery vinyl there so i tried to save it,was a lot of hassle but,i removed it and then realised as i was cleaning it that it got stretch marks on it.

i cleaned the cp with brass brushs and a drill, just a bit more to go but,i might just source out some covering and put it on as the cp is now.

here it is:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i removed the bottom of the cab,it is made of mdf and was well beat up,all feathered up and splitting.

i got planed wood.

here is where i am at now:

i am going to drill holes in the places i think i need to to strengthen it up,i will use dowelling and glue.

the wood on the left and right is bolted to the cab (thats the way it is) i actualy constructed this on the cab not away from it in case i got the measurements wrong,if i had when it came to bolting it on i would have had big probs.its all wood glued at the mo.when i have put dowelling in the places to strengthen it i will unbolt it and remove it and a few more dowelling rods in a couple more places that are not accessable while its fitted and then i will fit two wheels so i can cart it round.

i will slope the back edges of the side wood for when i tilt the cab back so the wheels are free to make contact with the ground.

it will be sprayed black.

QUESTION?

any suggestions for where to get a good vinyly material for the cp?i need something thick and if i have to buy glue to stick it on i aint partial if its not sticky back.something substantial like 1mm,i am having trouble sourcing out some cp covering,i dont want to spray it.

i would prefer a rubbery covering.

Nice work so far!

I really don't know about vinyl covering. Difficult to find here in the UK. Happs sell it in rolls and you can order it here in the UK, but they want a £50 minimum order.  :hissy:

On my project I used plain black adhesive floor tiles from B&Q. Of course the problem is the size. They are 305mm square (if I remember correctly) which of course isn't enough to go right across your panel. Would mean you having a "join" down the middle. But they are bendy, 2mm thick and very sticky. And they are only three quid a pack.  :P

i thought about sourcing out some rubber sheeting from somewhere on net.something like you say,2mm thick, then just get adhesive and stick it on.

thanks for the input though.

I would get it powder coated, it will be a much stronger and better looking finish than either vinyl or rubber. As its only small it shouldnt cost that much, maybe around the £20.00 mark.

i think i sourced some vinyl out, speaker vinyl:
http://cpc.farnell.com/1/1/31258-speaker-cabinet-vinyl-l099mt.html

not 100% sure though,i will keep looking though.

i removed the t-molding as i ordered 40ft worth from t-molding.com

i labled the wiring so i knew what was what,i also changed the quick disconnects as the old ones that were there dont fit the new microswitchs i got here.

so now i decided i am going to change not just the joysticks but, looks like i am gonna change the buttons also has they are just cheapo ones.

i will keep the cp 3 button layout, not bothered for 6 buttons.

That is cloth vinyl you have linked to.
Speak to Andy at Gremlin Solutions, he will be able to get you the correct control panel material.

small update.

i fitted wheels to the base i made and painted it matt black like the original.it is now fitted and the cab can be leant back and wheeled around now.

things left to do.

t-molding,waiting arrival from t-molding.

cp overlay,i realy want the good vinyl for this, like the stuff happ sell.if you have some or know where to get it especialy if your in the uk contact me.i will buy some.even if your a vendor, let me know.

fit 2 joysticks and 3 buttons each for the controls, cant fit due to not having the cp overlay.

i cleaned the glass,it can be refitted when the cp is sorted and fitted,it will hold the glass in posistion, then i need to get some artwork for the marquee and bezel.

general cleaning of outside of cab.

then its a case of a multigame jamma board or turn the monitor horizontaly and run side arms, which i happen to like LOTS!

good news,40ft of tmolding arrived from t-molding.com.

bad news, the slot is too big so it dont just slot/clip into place,it keeps popping out.

am having to stick it to the cab, running bit of evostick down the edge that slots into the cab, then pushing it in,now i have to lean things against it to keep it in place or it keeps popping out.

the tmolding will take me nigh on a week to do now as i have to leave it to dry, then glue some more and lean things against it till that dries,i gotta do that all the way round the cab on both sides.

yes,got one only cost me £3.50 and i bought 50 glue sticks.i dont know what i would do without this site and the people here.

all fitted:

she looks better than she did when i got her.theres some cleaning to do and am waiting on the vinyl,i found something on a site and ordered a small amount to see if its good on the cp.assuming that the vinyl is good,i will apply it to the cp,buttons and sticks will be fitted and it will be all but finished bar artwork.

then decide what board to use.the side arms i got with horizontal setup or a multi board that will cost in vertical posistion..

vinyl arrived today.

here is a piece i cut from the roll along side the cp:

glued on:

cut out the holes for the sticks and buttons and heres the 3 button setup and the 1p/2p fitted:

i got prob with the sticks.i need to drill the holes for the screws in the sticks plate a bit bigger so i can screw them in place as it gos wonky (any suggestions i will glady listen to)

i need to get better coach bolts that will sit flush to the vinyl and have a nice finish to them.then its just a case of wiring everything up and fitting the glass.general clean of the cab and i can think about the game i want to run in it (probably side arms)

will have to get black screws for the retainers and think about some artwork.wont put it on the side.

joysticks fitted, just want to get better coach bolts and nuts for the joysticks.had to redrill the holes in the joystick though to get the bolts through, easy job.

put the monitor horizontal and running sidearms:

its just so i would get feel for the joystick button setup, the joysticks feel fast the buttons are way better than the original.they clicked too much did the old ones and were wobbly.

i actualy like the vinyl.the cab is black and grey laminated so the dark grey vinyl sets it of pretty good.i had to use glue as it was not sticky backed.

happ sell the proper stuff on their site in usa, just google VINYL HAPP.

this vinyl what i used is what gets used on things like car dash boards.its good but,it stinks a bit.
