I couldn't tell them apart
I agree. I barely could tell what any of them were. The faces were horrible looking,
there seemed to be way too many useless details on each bot, and the rendering
was too contrasted.
Just one bug mass of grey metal flying around. Combine that with shaky camera and you can't tell what they hell is going on!
I also agree.
Recipe: Add a 30min of weird moving dark colored blobs, 15 min of shaking / fast
camera pans, and 1hr of Filler material, ...and bam! .. you have digital MUD.
When you watch the cartoons, you can actually make out the bots easily. You can
also easily tell what actions they are making.
And when you watch a decent films car driving scene... you can see the cars clear actions, make out which cars are which.
Yet the Transformer movie? You can barely make out anything.
It also looked as if it was the same digital modeler / artists? who made the new
StarTrek movie's "Baddie Ship". The ship that looked like a porcupines rear.
Very unrealistic, complex for the sake of being complex, ugly and purely pathetic.
Absolutely horrible designs.
And even from the preview, you can tell there just isnt that same charm the
cartoons had: The same personality and emotional connection that came from the
original voice actors + decent (though very unrealistic) writing.
Robots fighting / Transforming isnt really too exciting. It was more about
the characters various personalities that carried the toon to success. Pull up a
youtube cartoon clip, minimize it and just listen to the episode. Then re-start it,
turn off the sound... and watch the animation only.
