What 8-way joysticks are easily modifiable such that you can put a button as close to the stick as they are on an original Defender machine with the two-way stick?  I've heard of people doing this, but I'm curious what sticks they use?

Found it in this thread!

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=82479.msg997476#msg997476

Modding a U360 to be usable with a Defender reverse button next to it looks pretty easy.  I'm starting to feel a single-player panel brewing. :)

actually the U360 would be easier (it's a regular JLW in that thread) because you don't have to worry about the microswiches
so theoretically you could put it even closer

i assume you can place a 360 in any orientation , and use the mapping.
that other thread requires cutting the plate im wondering if putting a u360 in the other orientation will remove the need for trimming the plate
got COLOR codes from projects, post them here

add stuff to the uk wiki section

I think it's still in the way in the other orientation, but I'll have a look at it soon.

Looks like you'd have to modify the mounting plate no matter which way the joystick is mounted.
