X-Arcade Trackball?
« on: July 07, 2009, 08:27:56 am »
Anyone used one of these? Is it of acceptable quality? Being $60, I'm somewhat wary of it, but then again, it's $60.

I bought the Tankstick...which has the trackball included...I really havent had many problems with it (as per say)...Only problem i have had was that it would want to stick...( like there was trash on the rollers)...I opened it up and gave it a good cleaning...Havent really had any problems since...but I know that eventually I'm going to do some upgrades to it such as the lighting upgrade and the trackball booster kit from Randy at GGG.

To be honest, it depends on how much you want to use the trackball...I dont have guns for my shooter games, so i use my trackball to play them...but I really havent had any problems...

And for 60 bucks...why not?

I've heard really good things about it. Check out Retroblast's review of it:

It is decent.  I have one flush mounted to my control panel.  Works great but doesn't feel as good as a Golden Tee trackball.

I agree it works but nothing like a Happ trackball.  But for the price it is a great plug and play for the casual gammer.

I have one in the basement for testing.  Easy hook up and play.

i thought about picking one up a while back, but coudlnt find anyone with experience with them.  the price is nice, but in the end, i opted for the U-trak from ultimarc.  it mounts very nicely in a wooden panel and lights up.  it rolls very smoothly and feels great...but it is a good bit more expensive.

IIRC, the X-arcade trackball is simply a modified version of the Betson Imperial unit, so it detects a HID xarcade Device in USB mode.   Besides the electronics, it's the exact same unit.

Those things cost $125 back around 2003.  But now with all the competing products....

I also don't really like the feel of the Betsons.  They seem to get "stuck" too much.  Nothing at all like the feel of those trackballs on the Centipede machines.  Are Happs trackballs or Golden Tees supposed to be -that- good?  Are they the same oval-type mounting shape as the Betsons?

I have one in my Tankstick and liked it enough to order one from X-Arcade for the custom CP.  Like many have said it may be a clone but it feels really good to me.  I also couldn't complain about the price or mouse mode.  It is also a 3" trackball and the ball itself can be swapped if you want to eventually mod it with LED etc.
