Craftsman power turn-on unit clipping
« on: May 22, 2009, 01:00:27 am »
Per forum mention, I picked up ones of http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00924031000P?keyword=craftsman+power+turn-on%5C

I've had it for about a year and a half, and I just opened it. The problem I'm having, is that with my candy cab connected to one of the accessory outlets, the turn-on unit starts clipping (making clicky sounds, and the monitor goes on and off) after a few seconds. Anyone have this problem or something?

Never had any problems with mine. Seems like yours may be defective. Sears is usually pretty good about returns.

By the way - your link to the sears site is not working.

What do you have plugged into the "Power Tool" outlet ?
Maybe it's not pulling enough current to trigger the "Accessory" outlets on properly.

Seems like I read that some of the other similar units had an adjustable sensitivity, not sure if these do or not.

what do you have plugged into the main outlet that you are turning on to trigger the rest of it?

PC is main, cabinet is accessory. I thought of that - maybe I should switch them? I just didn't want to expose the computer to that clipping if I could help it.

i'm not following i guess.  when you say the cabinet is on an accessory port..i'm assuming that is monitor, speakers and lights?

does the PC stay running properly during this? what happens if you plug a lamp or something else in, does it flicker?

what happens if you use a lamp/something else in the master port, instead of the PC?

That would be my next step also...... plug a drill or something outlet you know pulls more current than the PC into the "Power Tool" outlet and see if it still acts up.
(leave the cabinet/monitor connected as is)

+1 for that Sears outlet working just fine for about a year or so (unlike the SmartStrip, which never worked well for me...).

Hmm. Seems computers just don't pull enough to make it go.

Maybe you should use an inefficient old computer w/ a noisy fan like me.  It'll draw enough current to trigger the outlet!   ;D

Hmm. Seems computers just don't pull enough to make it go.

I'm using these on 2 machines. PC on the trigger outlet, speakers, monitor and lighting on the slave, and it has always worked fine.
