What I lack in computer & MAME skills, I can sometimes make up for with brute force & patience.  I went on a mission to fill in gaps in my artwork for my FE (flyers, marquees, snaps, titles, & cabinets).

Marquees:
I found that there were many marquees missing from my MAME PC's art files, and they weren't to be found on a trip through MAWS.  For many of these games, I did, however, find cabinet shots and/or flyer shots.  From these images, I used Photoshop & cropped & skewed & tweaked to get marquee images (of varying quality, from laughably pixellated to darn good).

Snaps:
Some were wrong, not so good, or not at all on my MAME PC.  I made my own snaps from MAME.  In the case of Kozmik Kroozr, I didn't like the MAME F12 snaps that didn't show the background artwork, so I did a PRT SCRN & made a prettier snap.

Titles:
Again, many weren't to my liking, or missing, or showed the incorrect parent/child instead of the one that I actually wanted, so I grabbed my own title screens in MAME (I later learned that MAWS had many of these already...oops...).  For the laser disc games, I dug around Google & also took photos of my laptop running Daphne for those that I couldn't find on-line.  Note that I have custom filenames for my Daphne games...all part of my "tricking MaLa into thinking that they're MAME ROMs to put them all in the same game list" a la SGT's guide in the MaLa forum.  Ditto Kozmik Kroozr comment from "Snaps:" above.

So, I've attached 3 zips, which are the marquees, snaps, & titles that I needed to fill in much of my missing art.  Feel free to download & use whatever you want.  This is all quite unofficial, so use as you wish.  I welcome any feedback.

If the forum's download feature is still funked up, PM me & I'll e-mail you the files.

.........hey, the "Additional Options" link below no longer even produces an option to attach a file...OK, let's put them here (no guarantees on how long I'll keep them up...e-mail me if the link doesn't work, please).

Enjoy.

Thanks,
-Jason

Howdy-

I powered my way through cabinet art creation this week.

I pored through MAWS for flyer images for any game for which I (and MAWS) didn't have a cabinet image.  I opened up each such flyer image & looked to see if there was a cabinet picture on it.  If so, I downloaded the high-res version from Arcade Flyers, did some Photoshop work, & spit out a decent cabinet image.

I sized most cab pictures to be 320 pixels high, for a nice small file size (around 100k each).  This zip archive might also have a few extra cabinet images where I did some cleanup work (vs. pulling them from a flyer image).  I also got a couple of laser games in there, too, if you're running Daphne.

Forum attachments are still busted, so I'll add this to the following directory, w/ the existing FE artwork I put up recently: http://infernolab.com/forsale/vids/

Download & put into you cabinets directory & you should have some more completeness in your front end.  Hooray.

Next up: control panels!

Thanks,
-Jason

Let me know if you need somewhere to host it. I can manually put it online until they fix the attachment bug.

Thank you very much, Saint.  I can keep them on my infernolab.com link indefinitely.  It would be nice to incorporate these into some of the "official" (or semi-official archives) so people won't have to duplicate this labor.

I'll point the MAWS folks to these posts, if they're interested in using the files.

Thanks,
-Jason

Very cool!!

I would like to incorporate these into the official packs, if that's okay with you (and of course, full credit goes to you). But first, to help make it more complete...

How would you feel if I uploaded a few hundred more non-flyer pics for you to sort through and crop?  Most are named correctly, so shouldn't be too hard to sort through.

Howdy Mr. Do!

Yes, it's more than OK if you incorporate this art into the official packs--it's actually what I was *hoping* for!  :]  Credit would be great, thanks.  But I mainly just wanted to share my grunt work with others, to help fill in artwork gaps.

I'm currently plowing through control panels.  In a coupole of weeks, I'll have a zip archive of as many control panel images as I can create from cabinet and/or flyer images.

After that, I can dig in to your extra set.  Please clarify what you're looking for.  That is, are you referring to cabinet pics from which you'd like me to extract a decent marquee & control panel pic?

Thanks,
-Jason

I have a bunch of pics (cabinets, marquees, and control panels), that simply need to be cropped out for future pack inclusion.

Looking forward to the next set.  Let me know when I can get these to you.

Sounds good.  I just finished amassing 141 control panel files to work on.

Some are perfect as-is (I simply didn't have them in my set), some need simple cropping, but most need cropping & unskewing (and some color/contrast/brightness/etc work too).

I ought be ready to work on your files in about 1 week.

Thanks,
-Jason

OK, I went through the control panels & found 136 that I didn't have (compared against what MAWS has).

About a dozen cpanel images were there & ready for the taking.  The other 124ish, I generated from cabinet or flyer images that I found.  Boy, getting clean panel images is much more work than marquee images!

I generally made all images 300 pixels wide & saved all in .png format.  On most of the images, I painted the background "transparent" too.

As before, some are laughably pixellated, while some look great.  It depends on the size & resolution of the image with which I started.

I also cleaned up a couple of panel images that I found & duplicated a few here & there that apply to more games (like a couple of the Golden Tee panels & I assigned a Star Wars panel to Tomcat).

So, enjoy these & feel free to copy all that you want to augment your current cpanel art archive for your FE.  It's in http://infernolab.com/forsale/vids/ along with the other graphics files I did recently.

So, Mr. Do!, I'm ready to work on your documents.  Let me know how you want to proceed.

Thanks,
-Jason

Oh I forgot to mention.  On my cab, I prefer to use the US romsets wherever possible, because I live in the US & all of my youth's gaming was in the US.  So, I like to see the "Winners Don't Use Drugs" screen & the other minute differences on the US releases vs. others.

So, many of my ROMs, and therefore the associated graphics discussed in this thread, are the US children of another parent ROM that I'm not using.  So, keep that in mind, if you come across the graphics files that end in "u" but you use the parent ROM on your machine & do some file renaming as you see fit.

Thanks,
-Jason

PS--forgot to include the cpanel image for Road Blaster (the laser game).  Added it to the zip archive & re-uploaded it to the address shown in previous posts.

Howdy-

After wrestling with trying to get transparency to work in my MaLa front end for this set of custom control panel images that I put together (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=94985), I punted & decided to just make the images have black backgrounds & not use transparency.

So, the jasonbar_cpanel.zip file at http://infernolab.com/forsale/vids/ has been updated to have a set with black backgrounds & a set with transparent (mostly...missed a few...) backgrounds.

Enjoy.

-Jason

Per this thread (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=94937), I've added a set of marquee & snap art for the red/blue 3D versions of Asteroids, Asteroids Deluxe, & Warlords:

Enjoy.

Per this thread (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=95149), I've added a full (I think) set of "full size" Neo-Geo marquees:

Enjoy.
