Mame 3d - whats it all about?
« on: August 01, 2009, 02:53:35 pm »
Can someone please give me the snapshot of how people setup a 3d mame experience? Is there a certain emulator used? Is it worth it? Are glasses required?

Thanks!

I played asteroids deluxe with the 3d background from Mr.Do's website (red-blue glasses) and it was all right but nothing all that exciting.I would guess this is what you are referring to. There are several backgrounds that you can get that require red-blue glasses.

It looks like there are 3 games:
Asteroids, Asteroids Deluxe, and Warlords.

Thanks for the input.

Like this guy for instance:

Just curious if there was something out there that can add a filter or something to the games to make them appear 3d.  :dunno

I made some artwork for these three 3D games in my FE: Asteroids, Asteroids Deluxe, & Warlords.

I made 3 snaps & 3 marquees, overlaying an image of 3D glasses over the existing snap & marquee files.  I couldn't find a good glasses image that I could clean up nicely, so I whipped up a model of 3D red/blue glasses in Solidworks & used that.

Attached are the images.  Rename them & put them into your FE or MAME installation as you wish.  I've set up a system much like the one shown in SGT's guide in the MaLa forum to look for these ROM names in my batch file & launch a different MAME version that has the 3D artwork instead of the normal artwork.

You can also download the entire set here (including the SolidWorks 2009 model of the glasses & the Photoshop file of the glasses screen grab if you wish to modify the art):  http://infernolab.com/forsale/vids/MAME_Red-Blue_3D_art.zip

This is the same directory w/ my Neo-Geo "normal" marquees & other FE work that I culled from flyer scans: http://infernolab.com/forsale/vids/

Enjoy.

Thanks,
-Jason

Added these alternate snap images to the zip archive (and to this post), since my cab used different artwork from the artwork that I downloaded--so, here are alternate graphics showing overlays/underlays/whatnot embedded in the snaps.

Thanks,
-Jason
