Suggestions for my CP layout?
« on: March 16, 2009, 05:59:51 pm »
I whipped this up in Visio.

I'm working with extremely limited space as you can probably tell.

My cabinet was originally a Joust cabinet, so it only had 2 sticks with one button each.  Then it was remade to a Ninja Gaiden Cabinet and they were able to squeeze another two buttons in.

I've got less than 5 inches vertical to work with and it's two feet wide.  The template is designed is it will side under the trim for holding the plexi glass and give about 1/4" of space (the black line).  The top is actually taller than the template, but the bottom of the CP has corner supports so there's less mounting area than surface area.

I've printed a full size copy to see how it feels, but I thought I'd see if there were any suggestions.

The yellow buttons are going to be the player starts.  Since I'm going to be using the shift function on the UltraStik360s, I wanted it where I could reach it easily for pausing/etc.  This way I can hold it down with my pinky, keep my hand on the stick and perform the shift function with the other 6 buttons.  I tried laying the second stick out sideways to see if that gave me more options.  Can you configure the orientation of the stick or will I have to set all the maps as rotated 90 degrees manually?

You can easily rotate the bottom section of the U360 joystick to accomodate your mounting.  It is only 4 screws, so it is very easy to do.

Don't think I have seen many layouts with different button configurations, 1 straight and 1 curved.  Your reasoning behind doing this?

I noticed when laying out my CP that a curved button layout takes up a little less room because there is  a little overlap.

With that little of room is ther space to rest your hands at all or are they off the CP.  This will determine how quickly you become fatigued.

There actually is a reason for the two layouts.  I wanted to put them in place and see which one I liked more.  After wrapping it around the panel I definitely like the feel of the left side more.  It fits pretty well too.  I may want to smush them together a bit more as my left hand was on the trim on the left and my right hand will be on the trim if I twist the buttons on the right.

I can't wait for my stuff to come and I can actually play with it.  :hissy:
