Gamepad mapping in mamewah/mame
« on: January 23, 2009, 02:07:28 am »
3rd times a charm...can anyone please tell me how to get my GP Wiz40 working in mame v.125 and mamewah v1.63.

It is not recognising my joysticks or buttons...how can i get them working?

Windows recognises it as a gamepad but mame/mamewah is not. I have had a look through the wiki and am struggling to get my head around this one.

Please help  :banghead:

You have to enable joystick for mame.  (Probably the same with mamewah if you want to use the GPwiz in the FE, but I don't use it.)

This is a FAQ in the mame FAQ.  It's probably the first bullet: just go into mame.ini, and set "joystick 1".  (If you don't have mame.ini file, use the command mame -cc to make one.)  If that is the only joystick type device, you'll be good to go.  If you have other joysticks also plugged in, your GPwiz might be the second (or higher) joystick, and controlling player 2 (or higher) with mame's default input mapping; this is the forth bullet in the above linked FAQ.  If this is the case, remap (also in the mame FAQ).

This is why i can't beleive im so stuck...joystick is enabled in mame....when i try to go into the tab settings in a game i get no response outta my buttons/joysticks.

In gamepad options it show perfectly and even show it being mapped to the correct keys?? Am i missing something.

Check ALL your ini files: mame.ini, mame32.ini, and individual game ini files in the INI directory.

Cheers, found out that because i had compiled mame that i took away my mame.ini found in C:\mame.

Once i replaced it and set joysticks to 1 it worked. Been banging my head for ages and it was so simple.

Thanx 4 the help.
