OK found another oddity...
In Stella I have the quit mapped to CRTL+Q and J0 B14.  I also have closemul set to exit on ESC.
If I close Stella with ESC (ie closemul) no layout issues.  If I close stella with CRTL+Q or J0 B14 I get the layout issue.
For testing I went into Stella and mapped quit to ESC and removed the ESC from closemul alltogether.  Now when I run Stella and hit ESC I get the layout issue.
SO...closing Stella with MaLa hotkey or letting Stella close Stella is bad for the layout?
 ???

Yeah, the whole thing is strange.  In my test with your settings, I removed the ESC mapping from quit within Stella.  I am only using closemul to close Stella with ESC.  Perhaps you could post your stella.ini and your closemul.ini just for everyone's benefit?  Yours is the only working system where Stella isn't jumbling the layout that I know of.

Sure thing.  Had to rename them to .txt to post them.

Man I hope this works for you otherwise I got nothing left.  I have checked every setting I have changed and this is what breaks my system:

1)  Changing launcherres to a res other then my windows res
2)  Changing closemul quit timeout to 0 (anything else works and blank defaults to 200)
3)  Changing closemul quit management to anything other then 5,6, or 7.  -->  Not sure what this does but 1-3 breaks it and 4 will not even load Stella and kills MaLa on my computer.
4)  Letting Stella close Stella or using MaLa's hotkeys to exit
5)  Since Stella is so temperamental probably a million other things.

Argggh, nothing wants to work today.  :banghead:  I didn't know that there was still a problem with downloading of attachments in these forums.  I've tried IE and Firefox on two different computers.

Any chance you can post the contents of those two files in a:

Thanks.  I duplicated everything, but it was a no go.  Now I'm thinking I should try reverting back to the same version of Stella you're using or looking for differences with the layout such as layout size and whether it scales or not.  There has to be some underlying difference.

2.7.7

I can send you my mil file and jpg bk.  I did add a video window over the snap screen, other then that it is what was downloaded from MaLa's website.
In my testing I did change a lot in the layout to see if it made a difference and nothing did.
What I tested: Fixed sized, Scaling options, lo rez, resized the jpg bk to both 800x600 and 640x480.

What version of MaLa are you on?  Can't remember if you tested with 1.05.  If not I can try with the newest MaLa beta.

2.7.7

Using that already

Yeah I'm using the beta.  I didn't have 1.05, but did have 1.04 and tried that...  BAD IDEA.   Completely hosed all the "other emulator" settings.  Luckily I had a 2 week old backup.

Well I am not sure what the next step is then.
I actually just ran into another issue with Stella.  Now out of the blue and very random, when I exit out of Stella it goes to the launcher and not back to MaLa.  Oddly when I hit exit again it closes out out the launcher and back to MaLa.
So confused... :dizzy:

This is a bit weird.  it works fine on my laptop currently, on my other dell machine it has the resize issue after exiting a game.

using stella

parameters:
-fullres auto "%path%\%rom%.%ext%"

screen res is 800x600
layout is 800x600

no changes manually made to any ini for stella

I believe it was working up until I installed the mala tree version with a new set of layouts I found out on the web

I fixed it on my desktop.  I was having all the same issues posted here.  I did not do anything fancy except keep my layout res = desktop res.

using stella

parameters:
-fullres auto "%path%\%rom%.%ext%"

screen res is 800x600
layout is 800x600

NOW TRY THIS:

Start MALA

open options, goto GUI

goto Game Start/Quit

Click on Reorder layout after game quit

WORKS!!!

This has all been tried before with varying degrees of success.  I see you are setting your layout resolution to the same as your desktop resolution.  The only thing I see different is that you are specifying auto resolution on the command line instead of in the stella.ini file.  Are you getting a momentary (1 to 2 seconds) jumble until Mala reorders the layout like I have been getting?

No jumble, a pause , but no jumble.  I am using an older dell 4550 with one gig of ram.  switching between emulators is slower, fades out and then in as it switches.    Coming back from the game (any game, any emulator) I get the exit sound with a 2 second pause and then the screen shows up correctly (exit, goes black, pause, appears)

I checked for this stella.ini file, I actually can't find it (so I did not change it).  Weird that it is not with the stella exe file.  I'll check the version I am using, but I'm sure it is not the beta.

thanks,

gk

Sorry to burst your bubble but this is not a fix, it is a work around.  Setting the layout res = desktop res does seem to work IF you want to run your games at 800x600 and your windows res is 800x600.  Now if you want to run at 640x480 (full screen no borders) with a windows res at 800x600, problems.  Also I found in my test the reorder was not a factor in the issue (at least not for me, I don't use it and I don't have the problem right now).  I still think launcherres is the key as the launcher is the last thing up.

I checked for this stella.ini file, I actually can't find it (so I did not change it).
If you are using a newer version it should be located in your My Documents folder in a folder called Stella.

I am still having the intermediate issue of exiting Stella into the Launcher rather back to MaLa.  I wonder if that is realted to changing the res in stella to 640x480 and the launcherres to 800x600.

I tried switching to mess and z26 but can not get the full screen effect like stella running at 640x480.

Good point on the different resolutions.  Thanks for the location on the stella ini.

As for the issue "I am still having the intermediate issue of exiting Stella into the Launcher rather back to MaLa"

I was just having that issue as well on my laptop, but I did a game refresh and that issue went away.

very weird.

I started a new topic about that issue. Are there any news? I ran into the same problems...

If anyone is still experiencing this problem, we are looking into it here:
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=108507.0

The maintainer of the Stella project is now working with this to see with us, to see if he might be able to try to find a fix to this issue.  My own similar problem as this is now fixed, however, due to your resolution differences (from my own) your problem might still exist.   Anyway, if you are still experiencing this issue, please check out the above thread and chime in if necessary, as I'm sure if any fix does come to light, that he may need some people to test it out.
