Are ultimarc.com a safe place to buy form?
« on: January 06, 2009, 07:02:05 pm »
The time has come to order the good stuff. So I would like to know if this is a safe place to put my money, or is it somewhere else I should buy my Ultrastik?

Ultimarc might be the single best place to buy parts on the net.  GGG and Lizard Lick are right up there too.

I guess I got my answer. Now it would be great if that ProtX-crap paymentmethod wouldn't refuse my perfectly good creditcard.

Purchased from them plenty of times, never any problems.

Looks like he accepts global paypal as well. That might work better than the protx.  :dunno

I've ordered from Andy several times with no issues at all (and amazingly fast delivery considering his location).  He is a top notch guy as well and very quick to handle any issues you might have during or after the purchase.

I know Andy Warne is a con artist, and I can PROVE it! For one thing, I bought his minipac "keyboard encoder" and found out that not only did it not have a matrix, but it lacked most keys all-together. Hell, you even have to buy special "keys" made by Happ just to make the thing work properly. I already have a keyboard, why would I want a half-assed encoder without any keys? Why send someone 50 bucks for something I could have gotten at walmart for 10, and it even has keys. These damn keyboard encoders are a fraud. I've heard that they have no "ghost keys", but since I don't believe in ghosts I don't care (Like ghosts are gonna jump out of my 10 dollar walmart keyboard, anyways!  :dunno) Luckily for Andy, there was a guy by the name of Sir. Sammich Worcestershire-Sauce from Kent UK who discovered that the so-called "keyboard encoders" happen to fit the default keys for something called "Maim", and from what I can tell, Andy is pursuing this angle to increase his sales. Also, I have heard that there is also a similar con-artist operating in the US called Randy T., who is also selling these so-called "keyboard encoders".

It's  shame, I tell ya!

Absolutely no question.  Ultimarc is fantastic.  I've got 4 ultrasticks, an ArcadeVGA card, and the older IPAC and OptiPAC.  All top notch stuff.  The only problem I had was a defective PCB on one of the UltraSticks.  As soon as Andy knew about it, I had a replacement in hand.  Can't really get much better.

Andy is awesome with his customers. When people have asked on the forum about Ultimarc I would always answer in a brutally honest manner. I Praised the quality of his product and how quickly I got it. But since he forgot to include the ultimarc CD-rom with my order, I posted that as well. After a few times of posting my opinion of his services on BYOAC, he replied (not like he reads every post, of course) and said that if I wanted to have him ship the disc, he would. I told him not to bother, since someone pointed me to the page on his site for me to DL it.
The only problem I have with Andy's site is that his product line has grown/changed more than his web site's organization system has. It took me more than a month of casual surfing of his site before I happened upon the minipac (a product that should be one of his premier "front page" items). So, basically my only problem with Ultimarc is that the site makes it harder than I would like to actually shop for his stuff. (May sound like a minor complaint, but if I ended up with an Ipac instead of a minipac, I would have been like "WTF!!!")

You can't fault Ultimarcs customer service.

I bought a IPAC4 a couple of years ago and I managed to fry it with my n00bish wiring to druins interface. Andy told me to send it out to him and he fixed it for me free of charge and sent it back at his own cost. Most other companies would tell you to go jump.

Another positive comment from me - I got my order in Australia under three days after I ordered it. Sure, it was missing a few things (nobody's perfect), but Andy sent the missing bits just as quickly and without any questions asked. I know where I'll buy from again.

While i have not purchased anything directly from Ultimarc, i can vouch for their service.  I bought two U360 sticks from another vendor here on the forums, and one of them was damaged when i got it yesterday, then i managed to destroy it even more by trying to install a restrictor plate and twisted off two of the shafts.  One quick email to Andy, and he is sending out replacement parts.   unbelieveable!!!  this is a company that stands behind their product better than any other company i have ever dealt with...you cannot go wrong with ultimarc.

I'm a builder, and I go to Ultimarc for all of my parts. It's not as cheap as ordering in bulk (or even as cheap as some when ordering individually), but the part quality is excellent and customer service fantastic. I wouldn't choose any other parts for our machines.

Even the best are corruptible. If he did that, we would all be wondering what happened to our money while Andy was sitting back on a tropical private beach sipping on $300 Mai-Ti's.  :laugh2:

Now now, Ginsu: this all starts out in phases. A hundred here, a hundred there. The irony here is that you could buy a decent cab for 400 bucks, but why spend that much money when you can make your own for a mere 2000 bucks? (then that turns into 4000 after you decide to remodel it, then it turns into 10k after you decide that the first one was just a practice run and design a second (aka the "real" first) cab.)

Oh don't forget about when you hear about a cab auction nearby and make sure you have atleast 5 grand on you when you go... (And expect to drop most if not all on it, plus the impromptu Ryder van rental for that cab you just HAD to have but can't fit on the truck you borrowed from your red-neck friend).

Then there is the "The doors aren't wide enough to move my cabs in" phase. This is when you remove the doors, and the door jams. Still not enough space, so you make a garage door that opens directly into your game-room. The Game-room used to be your living room, but since your wife recently left you it is now your game room. (Add 15 grand+ for the fact your wife left you, divorce isn't cheap, but you can't play asteroids on her, so who cares).

In the end, it is still worth it.

its good to hear all of this positive feedback....im fixing to dump a couple hundred on some mame stuff

Only "a couple hundred'?

I might as well not ruin the surprise...

You'll find out soon enough, I guess...

In the end, it is still worth it.

why? my first cab was $300 before artwork. $500 after. and this was a three month project, so about $165 a month. But I'm not Cheap,I'm thrifty.
