Ideas for my control panel?
« on: November 12, 2008, 12:05:32 am »
==edit== This should be moved to the artwork forum please ==edit==

Alright I'm having a real hard time coming up with some artwork for the control panel Jack from arcadesrfun.com is making for me. The panel will be somewhat similar to this panel that he's making for Chase. Any ideas where I can get some art? Links? Ideas? I love the orange red color scheme on this cab that is from another fellow BYOACer here.

What I did was pick my favorite game and in my case series (Metal Slug), then roll with it.

I did sort of the same thing with Centipede (although the whole cabinet is a repro Centipede). I was more a fan of the cabinet artwork than the game.

Short of that, simple is always better in my opinion (both examples you provided qualify).  Perhaps get a color scheme going (there are tools on the internet that show complimentary colors for webpage design but can be applied to other things as well) and maybe get some ideas from the CP thread stickied at the top of the Main Forum.

Yeah, the Project Mame cab was a really good example of simple design, simple colours, awesome outcome!

You could roll with that artwork and modify the colours. The Wee Cade, also by lokesen, art is also available.

Check the CP art thread for more details:

Ya I love the weecade too! I might just get the dimensions from Jack and try to wing something in photoshop. I'd like to do something original, not just a standard CPO from mamemarquees. I've looked at probably every arcade on here over the years and the ones on the wiki, I think I practically live and breathe BYOAC haha :P

Thanks Martijn, I've definately pretty much seen every CP on this site over the years :P I think I'll have Jack send me a mockup of the CP and then I can have something to work with from there...maybe even have someone design something for me..

this is one also good

That one is good but, with respect to that cab's owner, make sure to hide your trackball mounting plate.   ;)  It draws attention away from the artwork you would be spending time and money on.
