I got mine today.

It actually arrived on Friday but I was out till today.
Mine has this listed as the part number:
scn-st-flt15.0-002-001 (which is not easy to track down on the ELO site)

1) Mine needs the brick power supply
2) It seems to me to have a warranty out to 0011 (I am not sure what this is)

I have a few questions:
1) What is the little box on the back for? (pic_02.jpg)
2) What the hell connects to this? (pic_03.jpg)
3) Is there a manual for this anywhere? ( I looked all through the manuals for 15" LCD's on the ELO site and saw nothing that looked like this model)

As soon as I get a brick I will test it out.

I did find this:
http://www.elotouch.com/Support/Documentation/discmanuals.asp

Finally

The box on the back appears to be a IntelliTouch Ultra controller.

I am still looking for the specific manual.

That box appears to be the touch controller. The plug (pic 3) looks like it is keyed for the plug onthe far left header (pic 2). It is the wire coming from the touchscreen. Look at all of the discontinued 15" models on ELO's site. When I was looking into buying some of these, I recall a manual that has that controller documented.

The 0011 should mean that it expired in November 2000

Yea I found a manual for the controller board, but not for the whole thing.

Still at the worst I have a nice 15" 4x3 LCD monitor - that aint bad..... :burgerking:

Yes, the cable in pic 2 does go to the header on the far left (P3)

just make a 10 pin header  to 9 pin d-sub cable for the connections to P2 per the documentation.

For the P4 connection just use the same type of 10 pin header to the connector that supplies the 5 volts to the PC hardrives.

Yes, you can use a brick supply or the type of AC power cord that is shown in the link that batdrive supplied in his post (up above).

I happened to have that type of AC power cord laying around. (from an old laptop) and it worked fine.

Sweet - I just received two of these today and they look to be brand new.  They're about a decade old, yet their brand new!   :)

I'm looking to get the things I need to get to get this going so I can start touchscreening.

I've been listening to what you all said above, so let me step through what I think I need:

1) Power brick for the Intellitouch Touchscreen (1st pic below)
As mentioned earlier can be bought on eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370053312000)

2) Power cord for the Intellitouch Ultra RS-232 Serial Controller (http://www.elotouch.com/Products/Updates/pmb000192.asp)
(also http://www.elotouch.com/Products/Discontinued/Controllers/c2310b0101.asp

3) Serial cord for the right most set of pins on the controller (2nd pic below) to connect to my PC?

4) PCI Serial card for my PC (something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815166004)

5) Good ol' VGA cable (3rd pic below) to connect to my PC

I think I've got it right for 1, 3 (maybe), 4 & 5.  But I'm not sure about the power for the controller...  This would be a 10 pin (like the attached cord with a Berg Mini-Latch end) to molex cable that would connect to the PC power supply?  Can someone link some cable from that is for sale that accomplishes this or is this a build-your-own type of solution?

I'm off to dig through my PC graveyard bin for a PCI serial card!

Well for $80 (with shipping) plus the cost of the brick around $25 you get a 15" LCD that is the correct aspect ratio for MAME.

For a few bucks more and some time - you can make it a touch screen.

I still think that is not the worst deal.

Not the best, but not a bad deal overall.

Especially since most touchscreens are a lot more.

Nice beanboy..

Since I have been gone from my last post, I have been talking with everyone under the sun it appears and so far it appears (maybe have not confirmed yet, until it arrives) that ELO sells a kit for this "type" of touch monitor that includes the cables needed, with the exception of the power for the lcd.

BTW this is what it advises is included in the cable kit:

"Serial Cable Pack for surface wave touchscreens - kit includes: 1, IT Internal Controller Power Cable 1 ground wire  , 1 RS-232 Output cable, Internal, 2x5 - DB-9F  and 1 RS-232 Data Cable, external, DB9M - DB9F "

Should hopefully have it and if its good to go Ill let everyone know.  It was like 30 shipped for them.

On a side note what power is everyone going to use since it appears the monitor will accept either the straight "mickey mouse" style cord or the pin brick style.  Mickey mouse style I think I can get for like 3.00 bucks where the other is obviously more expensive.  Bean since yours was working which one did you go with?

EDIT:  Since I modified my post Bean you added a Pic, I can see you have the mickey style power cord.

30 for all the cables is kinda pricey compaired to making them yourself.

I had the power cord laying around from an old laptop

Yep but the old slogan of time vs money comes in to play for me =), Wish I had time to make them.  I like doing stuff like that.  But..... well yeah wont happen.  Nice work on your cables though, good to see its up and running and a step closer to your juke (or any other project your doing with it)

After my discusion with Bean I did decide to atleast try the monitor aspect of my purchase.  I did have a mickey mouse style power cord and a VGA cord.  I tried it with my laptop and it worked great.  Just need the other cables to hope the touchscreen is good to go and I'll be happy.   ;D

Re: elo touchscreen 15 inches (touch screen) ebay

Glad to hear the progress.  The office I work in used to keep sample stock of some of this stuff laying around.  In the group buy I put together, I got a monitor missing the touch glass, and after e-mailing the seller, they sent me a good one w/o asking me to send the old one back.  Today, I found a SAW touchglass and a controller.  I got me a free 15" touch monitor now!

Now, that was all the SAW stuff we had, but I found a few of the old CRT overlays as well - I'm not sure they work though.

Anywho, just wanted to give a thank you for saving me the trouble of looking up this stuff myself.  This is the same info I needed to make my free one work!  Now to get that touch PC setup in the new garage!

Odd this will be my first post (was hoping it would be a project announcement ) but I just wanted to chime in. I jumped in on one of these too. I'm going to do a juke before I do my first arcade cab for "practice", atleast that's what I'm telling my wife. Mine came, its frame has the same dent that a few others do but other than that it's in top notch condition.

But that's really not why I'm posting, I just wanted to clarify that this does NOT need a brick power supply. Theres and AC port for a 5v cord that I picked up at Radioshack for $7. I hooked it up to a spare PC last night and everything turned on fine. I still need to dl the touchscreen software to try that out, but so far so good!

It's this little guy right here. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2117945&cp= part # 61-2868.

On the actual product it's refered to as a "6ft grounded power cord" Not sure where this compaq notebook power cord comes from.

Just to make a note, I ordered two of these touchscreens and one has two power connections and one only allows what's been called the "brick" power supply.  The one that only has the brick looks to be a slightly older version and has a slightly different physical layout.  Hopefully that's the only difference...

Ok I bought one these from the same seller. There must be two different types of power connectors.I only see the one single pole for a power brick style. The controller connections look the same.I would also be interested in buying the needed connectors/adaptors.I feel alot better about getting this touchscreen up and running. The power brick need to be 12v 3amp or can it be 3.5amps or 3.75.

If it says on the controller that the requirements are 5V  3amps, then 3 amps is the minimum you could use. 3.5 or 3.75 would work fine.  Make sure that the brick you get the polarity is correct.  On the outside of the plug is usually negative and the center conductor is usually positive.  I would just make sure you know what the monitor is looking for in the way of polarity.

I got two of these and only one has both connectors.  I had emailed and asked him if they took standard power connectors and he said yes.  I'm going to see if I can get some refund from him.

Does this monitor need two power supplies one for the controller 5v and one to power the monitor itself 12v.

per ELO, you should only need one or the other (if both are present).

To power both the monitor and touch controller it has two sets of wires.  The LCD gets its power either from the Brick power supply or the 3 prong mickey mouse style power cord (if yours has that).  The LCD controller on the back the middle set of header pins is for power.

If you check Ebay for ELO Power supply's they have lots of brick style power supplies for about 11 bucks (3a to 5a) that should work for the LCD the touch controller is different

Can you let us know how you ordered it?

Jack yeah I didn't mention that as I wanted to see what came to make sure it was the right part before everyone went and bought them.  If they dont work it would suck to have others spend the 30 bucks if it is the wrong stuff.  From what I have read it should work, but still not 100% and am unsure what the other side of the touch controller power header cable set up goes to.

For power supply on the controller.would it be possible to hook up  5v wire on the computer power supply and ground? This would be cleaner and easier to do. :dunno

This is what I am talking about( see pic.)Now this is with just the single pole connector for power supply.I have the  connector to fit the post style.Just power and ground. monitor is 12v and controller is 5v.Take a reg computer internal power connector.cut splice needed length and to the proper 5v and 12v wires use the computer power supply and grounds.use the computer power supply plugs.no need for multiple power bricks.

Anyone come up with a definitive way of getting these things to work easily?  I was planning on going to radio shack today and looking for a power cord to at least have a 15" monitor...
