I would assume that you'll need either a 9-pin serial cable or a usb cable for the touch interface and a power cord like a PC power supply. He doesn't list the model number though so I can't be sure.  It's an open frame monitor so you will have to build a bezel.  If it's all up to snuff, $92 shipped is a KILLER deal!

BTW, I inched my way up to $45 offers and all were immediately declined.  It looks like $50 is the rock bottom price.  I SO want to jump on one more (I have one for a wall-mount in my new master bedroom, and one for a touch PC mounted in the wall in my garage for pulling up exploded diagrams, etc while restoring my truck), but I would really like to jump on one of these ultra-cheap deals for another unit for an automated bar project (i.e. bar-monkey type thing).  Not to mention that this is a steal even for a 15" LCD deal.

I keep telling myself "the deal was here once, it will be here again".  Probably not too far off considering that there was the bulk buy I was in on and then this deal here too.  With these being new though, I'm having a hard time passing...  These go on a DIRECT basis from Elo for over $400 new.

In looking at that pic, it appears to have a power brick style power input. The ELO I have has a standard PC power cable input. So if it indeed needs a power brick, the deal just soured a bit.

My first bid of $60 was accepted and shipped out.  My second bid of $50 was accepted and shipped but then yesterday I got an email from Paypal saying the second monitor was refunded and would not be shipped out.  This is the message I got from the seller:

"Unfortunately, the last load of touch screens were damaged by water.  We are expecting more shortly, I will contact you when they arrive.  Sorry for the inconvenience.  You have been fully refunded."

Not sure how many have been damaged but it looks like he's getting more monitors.  I'll post some news when I get mine on Monday.

Well got mine today... and first I hope anyone else who ordered got better packaging then I did.  Barely enough bubble wrap to cover the monitor once and a box that was to big for the monitor and nothing to fill in the empty space.

Has a bent corner mount (appears not done in shipping).

Initial inspection all stickers have "warranty exp 0102" or "warranty exp 0101".  Which goes with the rest of what I have found so far.  The part # for the touchscreen controller is "244791-000" which a look at ELO's website shows it was in touchscreens in 1999, which pretty much goes with the warranty stickers. 

Still trying to get more on that part #, appears serial connection but only has header connections on it.

Edit: Here is the info on the touchscreen controller I mentioned above (discontinued 2001.. HAHAH go figure..sigh   )

As far as power it appears by the information above for the touch controller you have to have two power cables the one for the above touch controller and the monitor power.  The monitor has two points for power for either of the power cords shown here:

Hope that helps those that got one to help figure out what we all need to do to get them ready for use.


The front screen does look good (IE no marks/scratches..etc).

Got mine today also.  Everything batdive said said above is the same for me.  except for the bent frame. On the back of my monitor there is a flex ribbon cable loose.  It looks like it should plug into a long skinny board that is held in a pouch on the back.  This board has 6 micro push buttons on it.  I guess this must be the control board (focus, menu, ect) for the monitor.

The one good thing is that the screen has no marks at all.

I might be wrong, but from the looks of the website, you shoudl only need to use one of the two power methods.  The AC or DC power should power the touch controller too.  Overall, still looks like a good deal.  It looks to be a serial interface though so you'll probably need a 9-pin serial cable.

well I would agree you only need one of the two power cables.  The rest are header cables so trying to find the serial header cable is a little tougher, since its such a great new technology 


So far the hardest is the power cable for the touch control board.  Appears its a keyboard power cable from what I can get, but not 100% sure yet.

If you can't find a molex/serial cable adaptor.Only other choice might  be to change over the controller board.There on e-bay for $65 dollars.Power supply with shipping and board hitting almost $100 bucks.board number is 859778-000/2500uz.Please tell me there is a cheaper way.Don't quote me on this.I have never seen a touch screen set up like this.Need to find someone who has delt with this model touchscreen.

It actually arrived on Friday but I was out till today.
Mine has this listed as the part number:

3) Is there a manual for this anywhere? ( I looked all through the manuals for 15" LCD's on the ELO site and saw nothing that looked like this model)

The box on the back appears to be a IntelliTouch Ultra controller.

That box appears to be the touch controller. The plug (pic 3) looks like it is keyed for the plug onthe far left header (pic 2). It is the wire coming from the touchscreen. Look at all of the discontinued 15" models on ELO's site. When I was looking into buying some of these, I recall a manual that has that controller documented.

The 0011 should mean that it expired in November 2000

Yes, you can use a brick supply or the type of AC power cord that is shown in the link that batdrive supplied in his post (up above).

I happened to have that type of AC power cord laying around. (from an old laptop) and it worked fine.

Well for $80 (with shipping) plus the cost of the brick around $25 you get a 15" LCD that is the correct aspect ratio for MAME.

For a few bucks more and some time - you can make it a touch screen.

I still think that is not the worst deal.

Not the best, but not a bad deal overall.

Especially since most touchscreens are a lot more.

Since I have been gone from my last post, I have been talking with everyone under the sun it appears and so far it appears (maybe have not confirmed yet, until it arrives) that ELO sells a kit for this "type" of touch monitor that includes the cables needed, with the exception of the power for the lcd.

BTW this is what it advises is included in the cable kit:

"Serial Cable Pack for surface wave touchscreens - kit includes: 1, IT Internal Controller Power Cable 1 ground wire  , 1 RS-232 Output cable, Internal, 2x5 - DB-9F  and 1 RS-232 Data Cable, external, DB9M - DB9F "


Should hopefully have it and if its good to go Ill let everyone know.  It was like 30 shipped for them. 



On a side note what power is everyone going to use since it appears the monitor will accept either the straight "mickey mouse" style cord or the pin brick style.  Mickey mouse style I think I can get for like 3.00 bucks where the other is obviously more expensive.  Bean since yours was working which one did you go with?

After my discusion with Bean I did decide to atleast try the monitor aspect of my purchase.  I did have a mickey mouse style power cord and a VGA cord.  I tried it with my laptop and it worked great.  Just need the other cables to hope the touchscreen is good to go and I'll be happy.

Glad to hear the progress.  The office I work in used to keep sample stock of some of this stuff laying around.  In the group buy I put together, I got a monitor missing the touch glass, and after e-mailing the seller, they sent me a good one w/o asking me to send the old one back.  Today, I found a SAW touchglass and a controller.  I got me a free 15" touch monitor now!

Now, that was all the SAW stuff we had, but I found a few of the old CRT overlays as well - I'm not sure they work though.

Anywho, just wanted to give a thank you for saving me the trouble of looking up this stuff myself.  This is the same info I needed to make my free one work!  Now to get that touch PC setup in the new garage!

I'm going to do a juke before I do my first arcade cab for "practice", atleast that's what I'm telling my wife. Mine came, its frame has the same dent that a few others do but other than that it's in top notch condition.

But that's really not why I'm posting, I just wanted to clarify that this does NOT need a brick power supply. Theres and AC port for a 5v cord that I picked up at Radioshack for $7. I hooked it up to a spare PC last night and everything turned on fine. I still need to dl the touchscreen software to try that out, but so far so good!

Ok I bought one these from the same seller.There must be two different types of power connectors.I only see the one single pole for a power brick style.The controller connections look the same.I would also be interested in buying the needed connectors/adaptors.I feel alot better about getting this touchscreen up and running.The power brick need to be 12v 3amp or can it be 3.5amps or 3.75.

If it says on the controller that the requirements are 5V  3amps, then 3 amps is the minimum you could use. 3.5 or 3.75 would work fine.  Make sure that the brick you get the polarity is correct.  On the outside of the plug is usually negative and the center conductor is usually positive.  I would just make sure you know what the monitor is looking for in the way of polarity.

per ELO, you should only need one or the other (if both are present).

To power both the monitor and touch controller it has two sets of wires.  The LCD gets its power either from the Brick power supply or the 3 prong mickey mouse style power cord (if yours has that).  The LCD controller on the back the middle set of header pins is for power.

If you check Ebay for ELO Power supply's they have lots of brick style power supplies for about 11 bucks (3a to 5a) that should work for the LCD the touch controller is different

Jack yeah I didn't mention that as I wanted to see what came to make sure it was the right part before everyone went and bought them.  If they dont work it would suck to have others spend the 30 bucks if it is the wrong stuff.  From what I have read it should work, but still not 100% and am unsure what the other side of the touch controller power header cable set up goes to.

This is what I am talking about( see pic.)Now this is with just the single pole connector for power supply.I have the  connector to fit the post style.Just power and ground. monitor is 12v and controller is 5v.Take a reg computer internal power connector.cut splice needed length and to the proper 5v and 12v wires use the computer power supply and grounds.use the computer power supply plugs.no need for multiple power bricks.

I have given up on getting this thing(ELO touch screen bought on ebay)  working. I guess I do have a very rough looking LCD monitor for my 75.00  .  Now I need to finish my project -  which model  ELO touch screen  should I buy for my in wall juke box project?

Anyone come up with a definitive way of getting these things to work easily?  I was planning on going to radio shack today and looking for a power cord to at least have a 15" monitor...

I am still waiting for the parts I ordered to come in to see if they will work.  They should be here around 10/21.  If they work, I'll post all the information on it.

Simply put... hmm life happened =)

Anyway quick and dirty the parts appear to be the ones that will work.  I have not had a chance to install them and wont for awhile, but here is the info.  It came with 4 cords total.  The 10 pin header to power the touch controller (3 wires appear to be for power / ground / and frame ground), A header to serial port cable, a ground cable, and a serial to serial cable to attach the internal serial cord to your computer.

Hope my above post helps you get it working.  The wiring shouldnt be to bad with an extra molex from the computer. and if you have the mickey mouse style power cord from radio shack.  When I start working on my juke I'll post some more but that is a couple weeks away atleast... MAME cabinet is first (has to be done by next weekend... sigh)

I won 4 of these and sent payment.  10 days after sending payment and not receiving anything, I sent the seller a message.  He responded, saying that his warehouse was burglarized and the monitors were stolen.

I was the winner of 2 monitors originally.  Before I received them the seller emailed me and told me that a number of them got water damage so he would email me when he got more ans he would only be shipping out 1 of my monitors and he refunded my money via Paypal.  I got the 1 monitor which arrived fine but maybe he didn't want to tell you that he didn't have your 4 monitors and he didn't get burglarized.  He should refund your money!  Keep us posted.

Thanks for the info batdive.  Just ordered mine today.  $34.50 after tax and shipping.  Even after this unexpected cost, Im still under $100 for a 15" touchscreen.  Still a good deal in my opinion 

Now, what am I gonna use this for???

Anyone know of any good resources for building one of those bar or drink dispensing machines?  I think they are called a bar monkey?
