Hello from Maine,

A buddy of mine is looking for Phoenix and Space Invaders upright plans, do we have those?

If not, if someone could provide me with a "straight on" pic of the front and side of each cabinet, and tell me the height, I could create a "quick and dirty" plan using 1 inch grid.

Thank you,
Craig

Also the Phoenix artwork would be nice, or a "straight on" pic of it that I could perhaps manipulate in photoshop.

Cheers,
Craig

Mame marquees sells reproduction side art and marquees, at least for Phoenix. Click enlarge preview for a decent sized image.

I have a modified Centuri Phoenix cabinet, but I have replaced the control panel, monitor and put it on casters. I have the original control panel lying in a closet if you needed pictures of that.

Groovy :)

If you can take a pic of the front and one side, as straight as possible, and tell me the height, I could throw a 1 " square grid over the images. That makes a quick and dirty plan which works. If I recall the original "Lusid plan"* used a 1" grid.

If I could get a straight pic of the original control panel, also with the height, I could do the same.

It would be great for Phoenix fans :)

Thank you,
Craig

*If you thought "what's a Lusid?" His was like the first cabinet plan! He's one of the godfathers of home arcade. I bet he hangs out with Saint.

Thank you Cadmium,

Between your pictures and the manufacturer's flyer I was able to draft up some quick and dirty Phoenix plans.

What's quick and dirty? It gives you a rough idea, you simply create the rest, your cab will be in the likeness of - but not a precise copy.

I built my first upright from a pretty rough plan, it was before Tom B and JakoBud were drafting for us. It was a Defender cab which my brother, who was a Defender champ in the 80's, has enjoyed many times.

A rough plan gives you plenty of room for improvisation. Just make sure all is consistent before you cut. If your monitor / TV width exceeds the cabinet's proposed internal width make sure to adjust the plan - I think "monitor width +2 inches = internal width" works well.

Here they are, 1 square = 1 inch. They must be viewed at full size to see the squares correctly. Click them once to go between scaled and full.

Cheers,
Craig

Hey Craig. How did you put that 1" grid on that thing?

Hey Craig. How did you put that 1" grid on that thing?
this might be how
if the cab is for example 30" wide
draw a grid of evenly sized boxes, then scale the pic 'til its 30 boxes of the grid wide.
if the cabs 24" wide scale it 'til it covers 24 boxes etc
got COLOR codes from projects, post them here

add stuff to the uk wiki section

Let's see if I can recall how I put that 1" grid up ...

In PaintShop pro I would straighten the cabinet picture, then crop the cabinet picture tightly, then resize the cabinet picture so it is actual height (inches is an option in the resize menu) I got the actual cabinet height from the flyer.

Then I'd put a grid up that equals 1" squares - the grid is an overlay, it's not imbedded in the image. To do this I check the image properties, if it's 72 pixels per inch I set the grid properties to be 72 pixels in height and width, that means 1" squares.

Then I'd crank my screen resolution so it's maxed, like 3000x2000 or some madness, then I'd take a screenshot of the giant image with 1" squares over it using the "print screen" button on the keyboard. Then I'd drop back to normal resolution and paste the screen shot, and crop it, then call it a plan :)

It's easier done than said :)

It can turn a photo into a quick and dirty cabinet plan :)

Cheers,
Craig

Never realized Phoenix used buttons to move instead of a joystick. Learned something new today. I wonder if I should set it up that way in MAME for authenticity's sake?
