Wierd usb problem
« on: September 11, 2008, 03:28:04 pm »
I've had a separate powered usb hub in my cabinet for years to handle the inputs from the control panel.   Recently, I decided to purchase a usb expander that plugs into the header on the mobo and fits in one of the rear slots.

After I installed the unit and connected everything back up, I found that the trackball wouldn't work.  All buttong, joys and the spinner worked as they did before but no trackball.

Anyone have an idea as to why?

The usb unit I installed is powered via 5V.

Im taking it that you are using windows..
Did you check device manager, to make sure there is not a conflict?
You may have to go online and download latest usb drivers from Microsoft.

Or try moving it to a different USB port in case something happened to the one you are using.

If you mean different headers on the mobo the, yes, I tried that same results.  If you mean moving the trakball to a different usb port, tried that also.  No go.

Yep, Win XP.  I'll check the device manager and do some driver research.  Thanks!

I had to hook it back up as it was initially so I could play!  ;D

The usb expander works with all the other inputs (buttons, joys and spinners) so it seems to be functioning okay with the exception of the trackball.
