Slow Preview Playback
« on: September 10, 2008, 08:26:41 pm »
I just updated my Emumovie set to the HQ versions...

...the first thing I noticed was that MALA runs them at about 80% speed compared to the sounds... for example,  buy the time you hear the frogger make it to the lillypad the 2nd time around,  the frogger on screen is only 1/2 way across the screen...

...it seems to do this on all updated videos.

Any suggestions on what I can do to sync up the video with it's sound?

Looks you you got the wrong batch.  :dunno

That is a symptom of a non mala compatible video.

Have a ready through this thread, in particular circo's thoughts.

It seems people who have converted to XVID are still having issues?   This is a deal breaker for me unfortunately.  If I can't get this right I'll be forced to change front ends...

 :'(

Also...it sounds like a different issue.  My sound is only off from the video by about 3 seconds or so... also,  the video starts playing without issue...it's just the sound that is lagged.   There certainly isn't a 10-15 second delay before playing and they aren't crashing MALA.

I think I will try a different CODEC.  Any suggested codec packs?

I am not sure what exactly I did,  but I fixed the problem.  I think it MAY have something to do with the two different delay settings you can set for animations because that was one of the things I messed with.

I don't want to go messing around now that it works.  The only strange thing I see going on now is that when coming back from an external application...and when gaining focus back from games...the animation will appear instantly now with the rest of the layout (background, list, etc) all appearing about a second afterward.

No Problem  ;) Whatever works best for you. I know MaLa is picky with vids at the momement. Most users find a way to make it work for them.  Hopefully a sloction will present itself for MaLa sometime.

A suggestion. Make a copy of your mala.ini file. That way you can feel free to experiment with settings knowing you can always go back to the way you have it now.  ;)

I spoke too soon.  Upon reboot it went back to the old behavior?  Odd that it would work fine...then go back.  Also,  it doesn't seem to be just out of sync,  but rather the video plays about 80-85% speed while the audio remains at full speed?!  I tried updating my codec to no avail.  I am also experiencing a longer and longer lag time when the front end screen comes up (boot up,  return from external app, etc).   Its taking as long as 3-4 full seconds after the video shows on screen (with the rest blank) for the background and lists to show up, etc.

Something is going funny with it...

Welp,  I just verified that I am running the newer XVID avi's from Emumovies.  I also verified the only video codec running is the newest XVid codec (which I just updated).  I also verified that the avi's function normally when played with 2 different media players.

Unfortunately the problem remains in Mala...

I am bummed...I really don't want to convert this thing over to Mamewah damnit...what a pain in the ass.

I dunno what to say.  :dunno

Have you tried it on another PC?

Others have managed to obtain/convert a video set that plays fine through mala.

I hope another FE works better for you then.

In any case I'm hope MaLa will be fitted with a better video engine down the track.

My hypothesis is that there is something else at work here.  If it was a codec problem,  why would it work fine for a while then not on reboot...

I've got the same problem. I've noticed that with HQ movies there is a lot of CPU load.
I've completely solved using the LQ movies. In my case, in the preview rectangle they look exactly the same as HQ but with full speed and no CPU overload :)
