touch screen help
« on: August 21, 2008, 05:13:35 pm »
OK, I know I could search for this and I have, but to find my exact needed answers I will just make a post and anyone willing to help will be greatly appreciated........I bought a NEC MultiSync LCD 1560V+ 15 " LCD Monitor Touch Screen on ebay and I have it installed on my jukebox right now and I am having problems getting the touch aspect to work.......It works perfectly fine a regular monitor.........I was told to go to this adress to download the divers for it :  http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/3MTouchSystems/TS/TechnicalInformation/TouchDrivers/              .......... I am running windows xp home edition, so I assummed I should download the one that says windows xpe.......... I downloaded it ran the setup and then restarted the computer..........this is where it goes wrong, windows starts but immediatley the screen glitches and freezes so I had to go into safe mode and then system restore so the drivers are not active...........once again it works fine now like  normal monitor, but I do not have touch screen capabilities right now............DID I get pointed to the right area for the drivers? is there anything I am forgetting to do?? please let me know if you can help in any way........thanks, Andy

"xpe" most likely means "XP embedded" (and in looking at your link, I'm pretty sure that's right b/c it also lists the WinCE drivers as the XPe ones).  Those drivers might not work with a typical XP install.  If only the touch drivers aren't working, go back to that link and select "Legacy Drivers" and it will open up another box with windows drivers for the repective touch technology that you have.  Download those drivers and you should be set.

You'll need to do some research on your monitor to find out what tpuch technology you're using.

If it's a touch monitor, there will be another cord aside from the VGA.  Is there a USB/serial port on the monitor itself?  If so, you'll have to make use of that (either USB cable or 9-pin serial to 9-pin serial cable).  If there are no ports on the monitor anywhere, it is either not a touch monitor or is missing the touch interface.

At this point, pics would be the fastest way to help.  One of the front, one of the back, one of the bottom (even though it's relatively thin), and one of each side, as well as one of the model number.  From there, we shoudl be able to hook you up.

Yup .... that would explain why it's not working.

Looks like a serial cable is missing.  ;D

ok some progress........installed Mt7 drivers and all installed well while tehe serial port was connected aswell.........the mouse pointer was moving on it own and the only way I could control the mouse pointer was if I put a finger on the monitor and then it stabilized, then I could use the mouse.......>BUT then it all just stopped and started acting like a regular monitor again............

did you uninstall the XPe drivers?  They might be interfering.  If that doesn't work, I would try installing it on another PC (ONLY the touch interface drivers).  If it still doesn't work, my money would be on a damaged unit.

on the startup page of the mt7 control panel, it knows that the controller id is portcom2, knows controller type is serial legacy, knows the firmware version is 0240 and it says the touch screen status is "ok".......... then I click calibrate and it is just a blank white screen with no directions on what to do..........to get out of this I have to cntrl alt delete and then close it down............

Not trying to be an ass, but did you uninstall the XPe drivers or try it on another PC?  :dunno  Without doing that I cannot assist you any further and for all I know the monitor is bad.  Someone else might be able to hook you up though.

yet more information.......if I wait on the calibration screen it eventually starts up and asks me to touch the first target for a few seconds and then release.......so I did this with my finger and there was no response and the calibration ends.......I am feeling more and more that I may have a faulty monitor........even though I can move he pointer with my finger......Andy

IMO, I would say faulty monitor.  The only other thing you might try (and that would be totally last ditch) would be if you had a spare hard drive to install a clean OS and try then.  Otherwise, My guess is bad monitor (or, at least, touch interface).

Open the MT7 Control Panel  ......  go to  Tools ..... and RESET controller.

Then try re-calibrating.

Worth a shot.
I've salvaged a few touchscreen that wouldn't calibrate by doing this.

when I try to reset the controller the control panel freezes up and stops responding.......I guess my steps now are, calling a 3m customer rep, trying to take it to a computer store, trying to return it, or just purchasing a touch screen kit to go over it..........THANK YOU all who have helped me with ideas, I will post pictures of the finished product on this page if the day ever comes..............Andy

If you get hold of a 3M rep, you'll need to tell them that you're something other than a DIY'er.  They won't bother to do anything for you.  Tell them you're a custom kiosk house or something.  They might make an attempt to help then.

I know it's not the most ethical, but it's most likely what would happen.

Can you do the RESET controller trick and then re-calibrate ?
If it still does it after that then you have a bum screen. (the overlay itself)  :P

what's the model number.  It's hard to believe that there is only power and VGA.  I  would look hard for a USB connection.

That is just an LCD monitor, not a touchscreen. You need to buy a touchsccreen overlay or buy a whole touchscreen monitor.
