Mala Crash with layout
« on: August 19, 2008, 11:40:12 pm »
I have about 12 layouts installed on my mala config and for some reason one specific layout crashes when I scroll through rom list fast.

I have attachment my error log. I am hoping someone can help.

99% of the time with errors like this I find it is due to a bad video or snap.

Make a note of what game name(s) it crashes on and remove the snap and video and go from there

I will take a look. I dont have any videos just snaps. So a corrupt jpg would cause it?

I have seen it with a snap.  Just slowly go through the game list and see if it crashes on the same specific game each time.  Then, replace the snap for that game.

:applaud:

Can you do me a favour and post the bad image and/or video here please?

Maybe I can do something to help identify them easier, or better still make them work.

I would. But I deleted them already. It was screenshots off localarcade site. It was for SNES only. No problems with the rest.

I have another question for you.

Sometimes I run games at 1024x768 and when I return back to my layout in Mala its off alignment. Only way to fix is to switch to a different emulator and then back. Is there anyway to have mala refocus when exiting out for a game and returning to MAla layout?

No longer in your Recycle Bin?

Have you tried the option shown in the screenshot below?

I have a habit of empty it often

Well your suggestion worked like a charm. Just when you think you know everything about Mala, you learn something new.

Sure enough I just discovered another issue. Its with the Jukebox feature. When you select jukebox it lists all mp3s, which its supposed to. Now if you select Mame layout and go back to Jukebox it acutal shows the mame list in jukebox layout instead of the mp3 list. I will make a 3 screenshots to show differance. You will notice how second juke picture has same list as mame. This only happends when you select mame layout then go back to jukebox.

Do you think its related to my mame game lists? I have several which are located in the root of the Mala directory.

I did some further troubleshooting. Seem this happens because I have wrap emulators turn on. If I uncheck it isnt a issue. Since I have about 15 emulators setup I really need to have it turned on.

SGT can you confirm on your end if you have wrap emulators on and select a different game list on mame then default and switch to jukebox to see if this occurs.

Now I'm seeing your problem.  When you're viewing a Mame list, if you change game lists and then wrap back to Jukebox, the gamelist doesn't change.  It keeps the Mame gamelist and doesn't refresh/regenerate the jukebox gamelist.

Yes, Also I just noticed another issue with Jukebox. I have a mp3 playing in background when Mala loads up. It plays fine switching throughout all layouts, until it gets to Jukebox then it stops. Can you verify SGT.

Yep, the music stops until you proceed to another layout.  I'm thinking maybe this was by design so the jukebox could be played?   :dunno

If you find any more jukebox bugs, loadman will probably unplug the jukebox and sling it at us using his Hulk-like physique.

The thing is I would agree with you about that, but when you select jukebox it doesn’t actually play a song until you select something. So.... Why disable background music???

I would be nice when you use the term sling, that Loadman slings out jukebox function and adds a more robust jukebox implantation. :)

Where are your game lists stored? Mine are in the root dir of Mala. I wanted to put them in a folder to tidy up my directory but I can’t seem to figure out how to  config Mala to search for game lists in a specific location.

This thread got me to thinking about my missing cab pics issue. I went into the folder and noticed the first 'numbers' were missing; it started at 'A'. Hmmm. So I deleted all of them and re-extracted from the zip, and voila all (well, all that exist in the set) my cab pics in MaLa. I thought something was fishy.

Where is a good site for cab pics?

Surely you know about maws and klov? Or are you looking for a pack of cab pics for display in mala?

The site when I last looked was very limited. I was being lazy.

Of course he's wanting a cab pic pack for dispaly {in MaLa}. Duhhhh. Try this (Mr. Do's). Scroll down a bit. It hasn't been updated in a while, but I didn't easily find another place for them.
