Time wasting mistakes

Don't you love when you do something stupid that means you have to spend an hour or two doing something with a hammer and chisel that you could have done in two minutes with a router?

The mistakes hurt worse when it's expensive wood, like a good board of Red Oak.  Or, when you make a mistake and buy solid wood when plywood at 1/5th the cost would have done just as good a job.  Thank god I didn't make that second mistake while building my poker table.  I was smart and got an 8'x4' Red Oak plywood board with BEAUTIFUL grain, no bad spots, and no warping.  I now have enough extra where I can rip lengths that are 2.5" wide and not have to buy expensive oak lumber for parts of the table where the end grain won't be seen.

...or when you make a mistake and gouge a crevice in the laminate you are trimming, meaning you have to order a whole new sheet and wait a week for it.

...or when you cut some crown molding too short, so you go back to Home Depot and buy an extra 12', bring it home and cut a 3' piece you need out of the NEW piece instead of the old piece...

Remember, we don't make mistakes, we only have "happy little accidents".

Speak for yourself.  When I make a mistake that undoes an entire evening of hard work, or creates an entire evening of new work before I can get to what I should be doing is not happy.  There's nothing happy about it.  In fact, I find it rather disagreeable.

I find that it leads to a LOT of alcohol ingestion, and subsequently even MORE time spent not working on the project.

... or when you trim your T-molding 1" too short and have to buy a new roll

...or you used the wrong slot cutting width and the T-molding has to be hot glued in

...or when you achieve a beautiful looking paint job only to realise its as rough as sandpaper, collects crap like a magnet and needs to be sanded smooth, thus ruining the finish.

All purely hypothetical of course... I'm too good for mistakes like that.

Or when your table base is built and reinforced, and your table top is built and ready to attach, then you find that your attachment methods will NOT work and you have to spend five hours figuring out how to get your table top attached and by the time you do ALL the help you had to put everything together has left and can't help anymore.

When I started my project, I figured everybody would carry .187" female quick disconnects, so I didn't order any from the USA when I placed my other orders. When I finally went to the electronics store, The Source wanted $5 for 6 disconnects. After days of searching for local electronics suppliers, I eventually found someone who will sell 50 units @ $22.50 plus tax. That's a far cry from the $7 or so in the United States. So it's back to waiting...

Just finished cutting Plexiglass  for the control panel "Button Holes, Size, ECT" and come home the next day to find out someone thought it was trash and threw it away.

What a weird coincidence: I just went over to my parent's place to finish working on my cabinet and found out they composted all the 'scrap' wood that I had neatly stacked out of the way.

That sounds exactly like the type of stuff my stepmother used to do to me.  As soon as I left each weekend she threw away anything I had left behind.  Toys, shoes, clothes, schoolbooks...

One of my sons has red hair but it came from my wife.  You're right on the irony level - that would make it funny.
