Good save. Some of the ignorant might actually buy that.
Kind of a little ---smurfette---, aren't you?

Let's not let the new troll pull you in bro.  I almost let it happen...a couple times now... breath.

Forgive me, I do not know you and cannot presume to tell you what you will or will not do. It seemed like you would have done this from reading your posts and it also SEEMED like you were being a hypocrite at the same time by telling me I was not raised right when I said I would do something like this.

I'm sure you're a fine guy and a would never stoop to this level.  :blah:

You just said you agree with Shmokes in destroying the guys TV but then said you do not agree with me saying I would do something like this?  :dizzy:

The difference is that while I will think about it...I'll not go through with it.  I'll want to...but I won't.
That's completely understandable and I think everyone does that.  I know I've had some thoughts and fantasies about things I'd like to do or see happen to some people I know, but that's as far as it goes.

In a way isn't it healthy to mentally visualize your anger and then contemplate the actions, then get over it?  I'd think it's the people that bottle things up are the ones that tend to explode and do crazy things.

Well,  I wish Hemi would tone it down a little.  The few posts I've seen from him (in different topics) it's plainly apparent he's not going to fit in well here.  I certainly hope he smokes a bowl or in some other way chills out a little.

I confronted my neighbor about 'the problem', and it still stayed a problem.

Let's also say that your problem was a violent pair of pit bulls and that guy's problem is some noisy neighbors.  The two are on entirely different planes of urgency.

Same end result though. If it takes effort on their part to correct the situation, it will not be corrected. A person willing to disrupt the neighborhood like that isn't gonna go out of their way to correct things.

I don't really agree there.  The noise is annoying but not dangerous.  There is no real necessity to be quiet.  Now, to not kill children, that can be called necessary.

Perhaps you should send her over to the neighbors? Then Maybe they'd all hate you, but at least you'd have some peace and quiet...

Top three reasons we moved back to NY from FL after 2 years:
1. Too freakin' hot (91 degrees and humid for 6 straight months)
2. Too small lots (too close to neighbors, will eventually hate them)
3. No basements (can't hide from wife and where would arcade cabs go?)

Depends where in NY; and there's lots of places with basements. Personally, except for rare situations - like an old buddy of mine whose land is hilly and his basement has a door on a lower part of land than the first floor is on so there's no steps to fall down - I'd prefer an extension or just extra room of some sort. But I don't live in a dense urban sprawl region, either.

Who the hell wants to lug heavy cabs up and down a basement anyway. Get yourself a decent house with an extra room and set up your game room. Basements are old, dingy and smell like garbage.

Or, get yourself a decent house with a basement that doesn't smell like garbage.

I *LIKE* having my games in the basement and, with two exceptions, have had no problem moving games down there. It doesn't disturb anybody upstairs when I have them all running and gives me more far more space than any room (or two or three) on the main floor.

My basement must be an exception to your rule though, because it is actually the same age as the rest of the house.

And it doesn't smell like garbage.

I've always never had to "hide" my cabs in an attempt to not "disturb" anyone. My family and people I have known have always welcomed game playing of all kinds and it is accepted to have them in the main house and not having to bury them in a basement.

I meant no basements in south Florida because the water table is too high. There are basements in NY, one think that makes me happy.

My basement doesn't smell, but it is kept just dingy enough so no one disturbs ME while I'm down there.

You see, there you go again, putting your own personal spin on things and judging based on your limited perspective.

My friends and family love the game room.

How many cabinets do you have in that extra room in your "decent" house ?  Where do you put the pool table ?  The bar ?

How many people do you share that house with ? Any kids who may have bedtimes after which you want to play or work on games ? A wife who may want to read a book or watch TV without feeling the deep bass of Space Invaders or Asteroids ?

I am becoming convinced that you are our dearly (wish he were still) departed Giants/pit bull fan -- who else would begin a sentence with "I've always never" ?

I guess we all just need a warm safe place to lay our head and feel safe in our own mind.

We all like to act like we are all angels or could never destroy other peoples stuff if it comes down to it. Some might even go so far as to try to make others think they could never do anything like this while posting on a message board. The fact is you're only kidding yourself trying to act as if you would not get fed-up with a problem that would not seem to end, and if this was the only way to make the situation right, then so be it. I did say send a letter explaining the problem and wait and see if anything changes, and if not...

Sounds like a cowardly way to deal with the situation to me.  At least have the balls to confront the guy.  But whatever.  People deal with crap their own way.  Some folks have learned personal responsibility from their parents,  others haven't.  I don't blame you...

ok I have to say something about this then I will go back and read the rest!!

bb gun and pellets??? sorry but if you plan on busting through the window and then the surafe of a plasma screen you need to use the bb gun with what it was meant a BB as it is usually a hard metal like steel in copper coating and pellets are soft lead like substances and just flatten out.

bb's vs soft stretchy stuff =bb loosing
pellets to shoot some one but BB's for shooting out hard plastic glass what not's. ok I am going back to read the rest of this very interesting thread

(by the way I would try and let everyone know what kind of a ---meecrob--- that guy is so no one else gets taken by him in some other way.)

I think an even bigger reason we don't have basements is that we don't need basements.  You'll find that there are also no basements in Phoenix, AZ.  I think it has to do with foundations needing to be set below the frost line.  Since it never freezes, home builders don't go to the expense of building a basement.  Of course, the water table thing very well may make it so that even if you did want a basement in South Florida it would be out of the question.  But I think you probably have a basement in NY because you need one, more than because you can have one.

That is why houses have basements.  That's also why really old houses have basements that clearly were never meant to be used for much.  Go into a 150 year old house up here and you'll see why.  It's basically a hole walled up with rocks and mud with a mud floor.  Not even usable as storage.

My house is built into a slope in a way that from the street, it is a single story. From the back, it is 2-story. I have ground level access to both floors. Moving games into the basement is as simple as wheeling them into the garage.  ;D

And no, my basement does not stink. If your basement stinks, then you need to take a shower once in a while and take out the trash too.

That's called an earthen cellar, and it's good for all sorts of things.

Dude...it's been 6 months...

If I was going to reek havok on the guys lawn or his TV,  don'tcha think I'd have done it already?

Bah...like I said,  it would take me being real drunk and a lapse of judgement AND being near the guys property to do anything (not going to happen,  he lives about 15 miles from here).

I've thought about killing different people at different times too...did I do it?  Hell no.

I think the moral of the story is don't buy Televisions used, and especially Rear Projections used.

That's called an earthen cellar, and it's good for all sorts of things.

I thought earthen cellars were dug into a hillside with the front entrance at ground level but the back below grade?  The ones I'm talking about are just like slab foundations but predate concrete.  They're made up of rocks placed by hand.

Oh I see. Yeah, I missed a couple things. Although, I don't know if all earthen cellars were accessible only from the outside. I got the idea from my grandma that theirs had stairs to it from the inside, also.

Lots of them have entrances into the house.  They're normal basements, really, but built into the grade of the hillside.

You'll find that there are also no basements in Phoenix, AZ.  I think it has to do with foundations needing to be set below the frost line.

Incorrect.  There are homes with basements here.  In fact, that's one of the criteria we have for buying a home next year.

Of course there are.  That's not what I meant.  It's not like you're forbidden from building a basement just because you don't have to have one.  But basements are a helluva lot more expensive than a second-story, and they're less marketable (lack of sunlight, for example).  But where it freezes, the foundation of the home must be below the frost line.  In NYC, for example, that's four feet . . . and the foundation has to go deeper than that.  And many places get a lot colder than NYC.  So they build basements there as a matter of course, not just because someone wants a basement.

Went into a basement 4-5 houses down from mine... identical house, really, except their basement is like 2' deeper than mine.  Have to say I was a bit frustrated as ceiling height is a little low in my basement.   :banghead:  Can't think of a good reason for the difference.
