EMS TopGun II and MAME
« on: August 10, 2008, 05:53:43 pm »
I'm having trouble getting this set up to work with MAME. I can shoot, but the cursor never moves when I move the gun, it just stays in the middle of the screen. The gun works great in Model 2 emulator, for PC Games (ie. Mad Dog McCree), and is fine when in Windows. I'm using MAME version 0.126u1 and the latest TopGun II drivers.

Edit: I got the gun working, I'm just having trouble now with the offscreen reload. I enabled offscreen reload in the game ini file in the mame/ini folder. Also, in the TopGun Control Panel, I set "Set offscreen to" to button 2 (B). My test game is lethal enforcers. I can get the go to reload if i quickly snap the gun down and press the trigger but it's hit or miss and sometimes takes a few attempts to get it. I'd like it just reload when I press the B button on the gun.

I think there is an option to set a button to reload in a game so you don't have to shoot out of the screen since that doesn't really work right in MAME.

I've had many problems getting a consistent Topgun setup across all platforms. The driver version seems to influence the behaviour across the board, but I've found there are different reactions depending on the MAME version too.

I set the offscreen_reload to 1 in the ini file for each game, and also have the offscreen button set to a button a gun using the Top Gun Control Panel. It still doesn't work.

Try some mame version. I should think must be work properly.

Lethal Enforcers 1-2 has a reload bug in the emulation. You need to enable cheats in the game and turn on unlimited ammo.

This is what I was thinking I might need to do, but was looking for other alternatives first (meaning actually being able to reload). Is it just these two games, or are there others that have this reload bug?

I can't confirm now, but AFAIK, Lethal Enfoncers reload works OK. Only Lethal Enforces II does not reload properly.

Try to disable the mouse (mouse 0) when running it.
