anybody ever seen a cabinet like this

I am actually posting a question about the monitor in that section, but I was wondering if anyone has ever seen something like this. It appears to be Italian and completely unique.

It's like a weird knockoff of a naomi universal cabinet.

See here:

http://www.coinopexpress.com/products/machines/cabinets_only/Naomi_Universal_Cabinet_-_Upright_3411.html

But I would say the resemblance is only like 50%.

That would be cool for your kids or something, but I sure wouldnt have it in any game room.  I dont know, it looks like crap, but than again, it looks cool...

Actually, that would be cool for a consol conversion or something.  I'd like to stick a NES emulator in there.  Paint it NES grey and black, 2 8 way, 4 buttons, 2 start & pause buttons, that be sweet for the kids.

And the wife and I would play it too....

The real shame is that it can't be converted to sit down mode like a real universal cabinet.  Then you would have had a real score on your hands.

He had mentioned that it was from California and the company that makes Golden Tee - Incredible Technologies.

My best guess is that they used this for prototypes and it was never released in any way. But other then that I was hoping that someone had seen one in use somewhere and what kind of games it ran. I was hope beyond hope that these things were in real use.

It is looking more and more likely that these were just for testing......

They actually went to the trouble of building these ramps in it so that the returned coins would fall to the right place. It is pretty cool.

I am actually thinking of keeping the coin thing working and using it in the final thing that I do with it....

Which right now is probably going to be a NAOMI system if things work or or a NAOMI/MAME thing.

It looks alright. It's an interesting cabinet that looks different from your usual fare.

To me, the steering wheel and no pedals look really odd there. Like the wheel was added as an afterthought. The blue is kind of bleh. I would probably be tempted to paint it some new colors.

What are those doors down the front? Storage? Board access?

yea you can access the wiring in the bottom you can see some more photos in the monitor video forum:
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=82967.0

The control panel is really weird. I will photo it better tonight and post some photos. What you are seeing is a fiberglass overlay that has this wheel in it. There is a metal control panel under that and they cut this huge hole in it to make the wheel go through.

I will have to modifiy things quite a bit. I am either going to have a shop weld a new piece of metal in there like I did for this other cabinet or I am going to make some holes that I need and make a new fiberglass piece kind of like what is there.

It is going to be very very interesting. I would hope that the control panel could be interchanged with the upright NAOMI panels, but I do not have access to one of those to see if it would work.

I should try and see if I can buy one and modify it.

I traded an upright Out Run for it that needed some work. I really love the look of this cabinet and can't wait to get it running.

Yes, it should like very slick with a little bit of elbow grease.  The one thing that strikes me as odd about the cabinet is that there is no marquee.

Actually there kind of is a Marquee. I have not mounted it but it has a big plexiglass thing that mounts on top that says "Blue Sky".

I will set it up or photograph it off of the machine and add it to this post....

I think it looks kinda cool, except for that odd bit that seems to be sticking out the back (with the speaker holes, visible in the first photo). Good luck with this thing, and keep us posted on what you do with it.

Eric.

Here is what the underside of the control panel looks like.....

It turns out that I can get the monitor up and running as well.....

I am not sure what I am going to do with the wheel. For now I am going to keep it. I may try to use it in a driving game. since I have a NAOMI system I may try to see if I can make it work for a crazy taxi or some such game.

That is the doghouse that covers the back of the monitor guts....

It will not really be visible when I have it next to my other cabinets.

Those holes visible in the picture suggest it had a Neo Geo game in it.  Maybe convert it back to fighting games?  It looks like it would be pretty good for that.

I am considering putting Tekken 3 into it for an arcade party that I have coming up.

I am making a wood panel tomorrow night that will last until I can make a permanent solution.

Have you tried calling the number on the back of the monitor? If the company that made it still exists, and you give them the model #, they may be able to say what company they sold it to for arcade use. (Might help get a foothold on finding out what the cab was used for origonally)

Well, since it seems like a knockoff naomi universal, and it only uses four buttons laid out in the Neo Geo layout, I'm going to say that it probably had King of Fighters or Samurai Shodown in it running on Atomiswave.

I have been going through the wiring harness and it is pretty odd. They did not have everything wired up correctly. It was not set as a Neo-Geo type harness and it has some of the player 2 buttons and joystick wires cut. As far as I can tell they were used to wire up some of the controls on the Steering wheel.

On the other side of the control panel it has about 7 or 8 button holes drilled.

I am looking forward to fixing the wiring this weekend and get a temporary control panel in place and start playing a way...... :applaud:
