Well, I live in Tasmania.

Sure there are some perks, uncrowded surf (albeit in freezing water), amazing natural beauty and knowing half the people you meet. BUT, when it comes to getting hold of cabs, let me tell you, it's near impossible.

I have acquired one cab which was a mere shell, that was fine for my MAME project which I have nearly completed, but I want to get hold of a working cab.

There are quite a few located on the mainland, but getting them to me pretty much costs the price of the cab. It sucks balls. For example, even if I were to get a cheap $200 cab, it would cost me $400 shipping!

Still looking into some possibilities of getting some cabs in a container with another company or similar, but what a pain in the back side.

So, for all you out there that have access to great cabs, old and new, be thankful that you don't live in "Tassie".

I read somewhere that Perth is even worse. It is the most remote big city in the world. You can paddle to Melbourne at least. Perthians have to deal with zillions of centimeters of desert-sand first. And boatin is cheaper than trukkin.

you must be feeling a bit chilly right now

but i know how you feel about the remoteness. when i got the arcade bug, i lived in darwin (at the top of the northern territory on the map for non-australians). finding a cab there was pretty hard too...

I can't imagine life in Tazzy is that bad. Nor Perth for that matter, that's a pretty amazing part of the world*

I'd just scratch build a cabinet rather than have one shipped. You'll probably be happier with it in the end too - you can make it exactly how you want it.

*PS If anyone wants to employ/sponsor me, I'd love to move to Perth (or anywhere in Aus for that matter!)

Well, I have almost finished my conversion, and all in all, I am pretty happy with it.

It's far from some of the standard I have seen on these boards, but given what's available I think it's good.

Will post some pics soon.

As far as my avatar goes, it was an animated ASCI gif, geez.

Tassie devil's are actually quite docile, mainly due to their nocturnal way of life.

Although, I did catch one eating the geese once! My uncle "skid" went out in is pj's and it ripped them to shreds hahahaha.

They make the weirdest sound, sort of like a cat in heat cross with an elderly person sleeping.

Only about the size of a raccoon.

Living in Singapore doesn't suck but I have the same problem as you. I shipped over a cab from Hong Kong and the import was double the expense of transport. There are no clasic cabs here. At least you have nature nearby

It's one of the cleanest cities in the World, and certainly the cleanest city in South-East Asia (which is great) ...

... but there are Draconian laws to enforce that cleanliness (not so great, but OK if you conform, and/or naturally practice common courtesy, manners, and personal hygiene).

Back on the nature theme though ... Singapore Zoo is a modern and world class attraction.

Atually from memory Singapore is quite clean..in the city...once you leave the main city i beleive it changes quite a bit. Havn't been there for a while but beleive this to be true??

Singapore being a clean city is a myth. Sure the MRT and tourist area's are kept pretty clean but if you go out to Geylang for instance (where I live) there's plenty of dirt (and vice

). It's very safe though, even in the most remote areas. And the being arrested part... I've lived here for two years now and haven't even seen a police officer aprt from traffic police. You can't buy gum in the supermarket but drugstores sell it as "medicine".

Min, I'll happily put you up at my house for a while if you ever want to visit Canberra. You may also be interested to know that Canberra is a very "leafy" place to live (unlike Singapore), in more ways than one.

BTW, for those of you obsessed with Warner Bros cartoons, you might be interested to know that the Tassie devil is an endangered species, especially as now it is suffering from a disease/virus that causes disfiguring tumours that ultimately kill the animals. This is very sad. Plans are being made to isolate colonies of devils on the mainland to ensure that the species survives.
