OK, here are the people who are paid up:

Mountain
Malenko
nipsmg
frytex
moloch
me (duh!)

If I missed you, please let me know.  (This is as of 11:45PM Eastern)

Here are the people that said they want to do it (i.e. I have addresses from them):

the 5 that have already paid (mentioned above)
me
DoctorWHO (might have to back out due to shipping costs)
JeepMonkey
Sharidan
myntik
squirrellyDW
somunny

I would like to get this going Monday (tomorrow) evening.  If we have 10 people by then paid up, I will place the order.  Those who have not paid will have to sit this one out.  If we have MORE than 10, the vendor has tentatively told me it won't be a problem.  If we have less than 10, we will have to give it another day.  I don't want to be a jerk, I just don't want to be holding anyone's money any longer than I absolutely have to.

Remember, the sooner we start this, the sooner we're showing off our new touchscreens!

Everyone who has paid up:

Mountain
Malenko
nipsmg
frytex
moloch
me (duh!)
sharidan
myntik
somunny
drwho (x2)
jeepmonkey
gonzo90017

That's 13 right there (if I only end up taking 1)!

I have contacted the seller and he has agreed to hook us up with 13 at the price we have ben talking about.  I'll keep everyone posted.  Hopefully he can get the BIN up tonight and I'll place the order then.

I have accepted everyone's money.  A couple of you have paid either by check or I assume credit card (b/c it's showing a status of "unclaimed" even after I accepted it.  I'm chancing that no one is trying to screw me here (although I could probably flip 'em on e-bay and break even).  No offense intended to anyone.

I'm pretty stoked at all the touch screeney goodness headed our way!

Sorry man.  No hard feelings, but I had to place the order out of respect to the people I was holding money for.  If someone backs out, I'll let you know who and you guys can work out the $$ or something and I can send to you instead of them instead of double-shipping fees getting involved.

I will definitely keep you posted if there's a next time.  Also, once this goes down if you aren't able to score one, I'll give you the contact info of the guy we're doing the buy with and maybe he'll give you a discount since we're taking like 25% of his stock in one buy.

All - so far, the auction isn't up yet.  I doubt it gets up before morning.  Just wanted to fill everyone in.  Probably partly my fault.  I asked for a confirmation on the size of these things, and I think he thought I might back out if they were too big.  he replied to confirm and hasn't replied since.  Looks like we have to wait another 12 hours.

Just got off the phone with the seller.  They had set the auction up wrong (had it for $845+shipping, not $845 shipped).  All is good now and I just placed the order.  Apparently these all came from a Wal-Mart photo kiosk liquidation.  Money back guarantee.  I'll test them before I send them back out to you guys.  Here is the auction number:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=120273989714

You'll notice I used a different seller than the one we originally talked about.  I asked for a new auction and he jaked the price up (you can searh by his user name and see what I'm talking about).  The other guy offers a 7 day money back guarantee for the SAME monitor.  Both are in OK.  I assume they got them from the same liquidation sale.

Just wanted to update everyone.  Per the guy that works there, they should ship either tomorrow or Thursday.  I should get a tracking number once they ship.

Now, so people don't freak, I m heading back home for a family reunion on Friday morning.  There is no ISP in the town I grew up in, and broadband (other than satellite) isn't even an option.  The dial-up tops out at around 33.6.  I might not get to post the tracking number until Sunday.  I am taking my laptop and if I get to a hotspot, I'll update then, but I didn't want anyone worrying.

We're that much closer!

Does it come with the cables? You need the VGA cable of course.  ;D But also the usb cable in order for the touch function to work. No big deal, i'm just wondering?

Nope.  monitor only.  If you need a vga cable though, you can pick one up from monoprice for under $5 shipped.

What type of USB cable does it take?  I'm guessing it's an A-B cable, but I've seen things that require an A-A cable, which is dumb.

It requires an A/B cable. The original seller in my thread over in the Jukebox forum sold these with all of the cables. Kinda sucks that these don't have them.

Sorry guys.  I didn't intend to cost anyone any money.  The original seller jacked the price up on us.  I probably should have asked up front, but I didn't think about them being included.

For what it's worth, I got a quote on monoprice.com for both cables @ $5.70 shipped.

So if you did a bulk buy on monoprice for everyone, the price/person should drop pretty good. Is that an option? Also, do these monitors require a power supply, or just a standard pc power cable?

Standard power cable.  I would be hard pressed to imagine that we don't all have one or two of these around somewhere.

There would be no real benefit for a group buy b/c buying 13 makes the average cost $3.50.  $2 and change (plus paypal fees) definitely doesn't really change the game much if you're looking to buy the cables anyway.

I fully admit I should have looked into the cable thing first, but I had just assumed that since they were kiosk pulls that they wouldn't be included in either auction.  I had approached the original guy and asked him to put up another auction for $550+$100 shipping.  He put up one for $625+$100 shipping (both for 10).  (which would have been an extra $7.50 each)

So basically, I thought I was getting us all the same deal.  In reality, it's $5 on the not as good side.  I think the highest I told anyone the shipping would be was $18.  For that person, the original monitor could have been purchased for $80+$18 shipping = $98.  For this person, the one from me will be $18+70+$6 (rounding up) = $94.  Not as good as originally thought, but still a shade better.

At this point, I've already made the purchase and all I can offer is an apology.  To those who are closer, your shipping was less and it's still a little better yet.  I think I have been upfront enough to show that this wasn't intentional.

If anyone is in need of a power cable, let me know.  I have a few extras laying around and an toss on in your package when I send it.  I don't know if I have this many though so it would be first come, first serve.

Padstack,
No worries bud. You have done everything right by my count. This is still a great deal and I am sure everyone involved would have eventually bought one from the original guy @ $80 + shipping.

No apologies needed

May I hijack this thread for a minute. I purchased one of these from hitech assets?

Is this the same company?

I'm having an issue with mine http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=81373.0

If anybody has any answers, thank you.

Sorry for the hijack.

No need to apologize, man. You did us a great service, since no other was willing or had the courage to do it. :applaud:

As for the cables, I think I've got a dozen each in some drawer, so no worries for me. Thanks again, man. Hope to thank you personally when I'll come to America... one day...

May I hijack this thread for a minute. I purchased one of these from hitech assets?

Is this the same company?

I'm having an issue with mine http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=81373.0

If anybody has any answers, thank you.

Sorry for the hijack.

Well, it would have been.  they jacked the price when I asked for a new auction (they had been selling individually pretty regularly and he sold a lot of 100 for $5000 so I tihnk he got cocky).

I don't know much about them except that these were a great deal.  The company that I work for sells them and these go for well over $300 new.  To answer one of the questions in your thread though, they do NOT need to be in a bezel to work.  I would try contacting the seller or ELO through their website (and don't mention that you bought it through ebay - I know, duh!)

Sent Hitech two messages to ask if they shipped in Italy and shipping costs. Never got an answer.  Sent one to Vantage, they responded right away: "No, unfortunately we do not ship to Italy." But they DID respond, at least. This show professionalism.

When I called vantage to set up the auction, he claimed he didn't know of the other guy.  I can't say that I know it's correct, but if you look at their feedback ratings, I don't think either has anything to gain by lying.  I figure that when Wal-Mart sold the kiosks, there were multiple lots and a couple people were at the auction and bought them.  Just MO.

Dude, we got a *small* pricebreak by ordering in bulk.  Something on the order of $10-$15.  Not a huge deal.  You can "buy it now" on ebay for $85 + shipping.

If I wasn't a tool, I would have found the thread on fatwallet where we could have gotten 35% off from microsoft for a BIN purchase through live.com and ebay.  I'm one of those people who just gets perpetually irritated by missing a deal.  In my mind, I lost money.  I did the same thing by forgetting to file the DeBeers claim for my wife's engagement ring. :banghead:

FWIW, you can still get 10% off ANY BIN purchase on ebay with paypal.  Do a google search on ebay 35% and you can find out how.
