Advice on TT2 and button placement
« on: May 26, 2008, 01:47:53 pm »
Hello,

I await my last parts after i have ordered tons of ice buttons, a trackball and now a TT2 spinner.

However i am not sure where to put it on my cutomdesigned CP.
First the CP artwork is folded so the buttons on the bottom are mounted vertically when i stand in front of it.

But to get to my question
I was planning on putting the TT2 on the right side above the trackball and the other 2 are the left and right mouse buttons.

What do you preffer? get rid of those buttons? left side TT2 placement? or in the middle maybe but then i am afraid the spinner gets in the way when i am playing on the trackball.

My intuition says spinner right buttons left for playing.

Any advice?

p.s. i do not have much room on my cp ;)

here is how I did mine.  I'm pretty happy with it, the spinner is above the trackball with the 2 mouse buttons below the spinner.  I hope the pictures are clear enough.

My TT2 is at the bottom right of the joystick and unlike what others think, it does not get in the way in the least bit when using the joystick. My button rearangement is going to change. I'm putting the thumb button on the other side.

Thank you both for the input.

Intresting to know it does not get in the way even so close to the joystick.
I might place it in the middle now above the trackball.

Most say that putting buttons and spinners above the track ball is a bad idea since playing games like World Class Bowling, where you spin the trackball mercilessly forward, you fling your hand forward and likely pressing buttons or even damaging your fingers on the spinner, including the bezel if the trackball is too high up near the bezel.

Don't most spinner games have the buttons on the left and the spinner on the right?  Unless you're left handed I can't imagine that would work well for games like Arkanoid or Tempest.

Well the bezel is not in the way as it is in line with the cp. (you will notice when i finish my cab.)

So to the right is prefferable as ahofle mentioned most spinner buttons are on the left.

If you use the full bash your hand technique for trackball games you may not want to put the spinner above the trackball.  I use the 2 thumbs method and have no problem.
