Totally sick mountain.  Easily the best looking jukebox I've seen.  You really put it together fast all things considered.

Power supply questions for you!!
« Reply #88 on: June 02, 2008, 03:10:21 pm »
Holy Moly dude! Absolutely stunning work! You are indeed the man all up in here.

I see that you tapped all the power to a single binding post and then to the switch/port mounted on the back of the unit. Can I ask where one would get such a port? Did you just cannibalize it off the back of the power supply and mount it to the base? I want to have something simliar to that on the back of my bartop that I am currently working on. Thanks for the info!!

I was waiting to see the final product and it was beyond worth the wait. I just can't think of words good enough to describe how incredible it turned out. Somehow outstanding, stunning, beautiful just aren't enough. It's damn near breathtaking. What a fantastic job mountain! Again I bow to you! -  :notworthy:

Which jukebox program did you go with?

Thank you guys! I really appreciate the praise. I busted my butt to get this done and consider myself lucky for it to have turned out out this nice. I hate working under pressure and as leapinlew said, I cut this one a bit too close.

My Dad doesn't shed a tear very often but this one caught him off guard. I had sent him the link to this thread this morning and he replied today with a really nice message thanking me once again. There is a part of the message that I think I should post here because it is too cool that even he can see how special a community this is. Below is what he had to say about BYOAC.

"The pictures are great.  I went all the way through the forum and was amazed at the detail and amount of work that was done. Sounds like there are some great guys out there too.  They seem to all be ready to be helpful giving suggestions and offering loads of encouragement."

Thank you all again for all of the encouragment and kind words. You guys are awesome.

I found a few more pictures that I meant to post but forgot since I was in a hurry to them up earlier.

I wanted to show this shot because it pretty much explains why I decided to finish the back the way I did. Wednesday night I was studying the back plate that I had previously cut and I realized that the back of this thing would be seen by everyone sitting at the bar because of the mirrors.

Here is a good shot of the panel made from 1/8" Plexiglas. Again, if it was going to be seen I wanted it to look good.

Another good picture of the back.

A few close ups of the Marquee and volume knob.

And of course the mandatory beverage for scale

One last good shot of it in the bar.

Actually, the money shot may come tomorrow. I have the machine with me and will be taking it to work tomorrow where we have a mini photo studio with all of the right equipment for taking product shots.

I brought the machine back with me because I needed to finish loading music and pictures as well as tweak a little further. My Mom was planning on driving over this week anyway so it worked out. At least that is what I told my dad.  ;D

Great work Mountain!
I know your dad is proud of you.
Nice bar your dad has too.
Thanks for the idea of using 1/8" MDF for the curved top, I was seriously thinking of building a juke box with a top like that, but was wondering how I was going to get the wood to curve. Now if I can only find 1/8" MDF in my area.
Again, great work, very professional..

The shots in a production studio should be awesome!

I have a couple more questions mountain.

1. Which version of Xlobby do you have?

2. How big a hard drive did you put in it?

3. Did you ever put the switch in for the Griffin disconnect problem or did you find more info on it? I didn't see it in any of the pics.

4. Did you get the Dell LCD speakers from an LCD tv or is that something Dell sells as a stand alone product?

TIA

Hey Encryptor!

All I can find about the version is "XLOBBY2 2.0" I can send it to you if you like.

The Juke has a 250g HD

I decided only to install the switch if needed. So far I have not had any issues. I did de-solder the CHEAP USB cable that came with it and replaced it with a better quality cable. If the problem is in the cable it shouldn't be an issue now.

The Dell speakers are sold seperately to be mounted on a variety of Dell LCD monitors. Do a search for Dell AS501. They actually sound good considering what they are. For casual listening around the bar, they are perfect.

Hope this helps. Are you planning on building one?

Thanks for the info mountain. I do plan on building one but I haven't figured out how big or what design I'm going to use yet. I do like your design though. It will be a little while before I start on it. I'm still collecting parts and I have to finish my MAME cab first. That's the problem with this hobby. You start going down one road and then someone builds a beautiful piece like you did and changes your whole line of thinking.  ;D

Although it took a bit of searching I managed to find a copy of Xlobby2. According to the site I got it from it is the last version before it went commercial. If I have any issues getting it to work I'll let you know. If that happens I'd appreciate you sending the version you have to me. Thanks for the offer and the information.

The griffin powermate disconnect problem seemed to be related to the drivers, a couple of my users brought them to use with freebox and they resolved the issue by using some earlier drivers.

Been browsing BYOAC for about a year but I haven't been logging in as had little to say.

That changed today.

What an incredible piece of work! I'm blown away by the end result and the quality of the workmanship.  It's been great to read how you've done it, especially the care that's went into the finish.  Hell - even the wiring looks perfect!

Impressed - Inspired - A little sad because I would never be able to do that!  Well done.

mountain - what is the black rubber tubing called that you put around the area where two exposed wires meet to insulate and make it neat?  Like in this picture:

I notice you use it a lot - I typically use electrical tape but I like your solution better...   Is it readily available?

That is called shrink tube. You can buy it at Radio Shack and most auto parts stores. You put it over the wires and after you solder them you simply slide it over the connection and use a heat gun or a lighter and it shrinks conforming to tightly to whatever it's over. It's very handy and easy to use.

Let me just say WOW...

I've been lurking around here for a few months.  I've been wanting to do a jukebox and an arcade cabinet.  I had it all planned out, just received all the juke parts I was going to use, got my touchscreen off ebay, had plans drawn up, and then I see this.  INCREDIBLE.  Now my idea just looks BAD in comparison!

I LOVE this thing, Mountain, great work, thanks for raising the bar.  I am going to take a few pointers from this.  While I'm going to stick to my original plan (I love yours but don't have the skills to replicate it, or a full bar to put it on), I am definitely going to borrow a few ideas.

That's what I love about this forum!  Always some new, incredibly well-documented ideas to borrow from and expand upon.  I'll be sure and post my progress when I get started, but I'm a little less excited to after seeing this!
