hydraulic driving game
« on: April 25, 2008, 07:54:46 am »
hi im goin to mame a driving game, got chance of  ridge racer or gti club sitdown if mamed would the hydraulics work within mame or would it not move? does it use a percific  logic board for this?  also if its not a 360 wheel on it will all games work ok with the wheel? does this involve alot of work to get it going? and lastly is it worth it?

No
Yes ??? (percific?)
Not really
Depends
Maybe

EDIT: To be less obnoxious -- nope, the hydraulics won't work by default -- you will need to do some special work there. If you don't have a 360 wheel, then you will have some trouble playing games designed for a 360 wheel. The other two I can't answer without more details.

i thought the hydraulics wouldnt work, anyway it would go through more electric, there aint alot of 360games out so wont be playing sprint, ironman and apb,i want a driving cab that i can play good driving games but how easy is it to get it all working 100% (controlls i mean) i know some games like daytona use 1234 gear and games like outrun have high low and chase hq have turbo button, would the 1234 combo work with hi/low games or should i get cab with high low switch or paddels and just put buttons on cab for 3 and 4 gear and turbo, this part is quite confusin, help appreciated

I think he means specific logic board.

I've been contemplating doing some racing controls and here's the situation.  Games like pole position have the stick either at high or at low.  Some games use a spring type lever to change gears.  Also think of afterburner as a high/low type of stick.  Some have a turbo button like you said as well.  I'm not 100 percent sure, but i think a 1234 shifter would work for your high/low.

I've seen more than a few dedicated arcade driving cabs and the general consensus is this: the creators are NEVER satisfied with the results. Your best bet is to pick just a few games that you know will play nice together.

yup so many control methods, might get a standard hi low cAB OR one with paddles like monaco gp, and hopefully get the stearing to work in mame and the peddles to, the gears that use more than 2 i will install a few buttons and a turbo button, just means i hit 1,2 will be mapped hi low, and 3 4 will be mapped to buttons as well as turbo, i think its only solution unless i pick up a daytona 1234 and hopefully 1 2 will be high low and a button for turbo unless i can drill and install a button on thr side or top of the gearshirt, does this sound logical?is the wheel easy to set up in mame

I just finished up my racing setup for the third time last night, I started to go with mame for racing but its to many problems & too few games.  So I went another route using a pc &  a playstation 3 w/ a 40" 1080P lcd.  I hit a switch to switch back & forth between the systems.  I will be posting pics this weekend

FYI

I dont think there are any motion arcade machines that use Hydraulics.  As they are
too slow, and require too much maintenance.

All the onces Ive seen and worked on were electric motor driven.

Yes.  Once you get the wheel working in windows.  (hint: apac2 = easy wiring analog to windows.)

NO!! electric motor via a gearbox with a large rubber wheel on it that drives on the bottom of the seat section.

It was I think the first arcade driving motion simulator to be released.

SEGA still use the same method to drive the new cabs like Afterburner Climax.

Actually,  in  Afterburners case you are correct Fozzy.

In Out Runs case, its slightly different.   It a motor that drives a (2ft?) huge worm drive.
As the worm drive turns,  a piece of metal rides on it back and forth, and that pushed the
cabinet from left to right on its pivot.  (as far as I can tell from the pictures)

Geezzzzz!!!! Touchy or what!!! I wasn't biting your head off. I really don't know why I bother sometimes. Are you just having a bad day or something??

If I'd been biting your head off you'd have known about it..... Well you would have done for all of the 20 seconds it takes a human brain to black out after being removed from somebodys neck.  ;)
