I happened to see a Wii Guiter Hero guitar at my local Toys-r-us. I thought these were very rare ? Or have things changed ?

Why is the Wii still rare? It's almost a year since it launched. By now they should have had plenty of time to meet the demand plus have extras lying around in the back of the stores.

I don't believe the hardware shortage was ever anything but Nintendo creating a false demand. They are deliberately keeping supply short, so that people are still wanting.

Not that the Wii isn't in demand, but there is no way it is selling so well that Nintendo can't make enough to keep up.

It's been 18 months!  I actually saw some Wii's at Target today.  First time I've seen them in the wild in at least two months.

Yeah, what somunny said.  The supply/demand thing is so bizarre that it's easy to get mixed up and think we must be coming up on the Wii's one-year birthday, when it's really going to be turning two this year.

Interesting article explaining the reason behind the shortage of Wii systems in the US.  Blame the weak US Dollar they say.

The Xbox 360 has been having supply problems this year, and it doesn't sell nearly as well as the Wii.

You might be able to "create demand" on a small scale, but I think when you hit the "tens of millions" scale, that argument gets a bit silly.  They can build more factories, but that takes time and money, and the only thing worse than under-production is over-production.  Don't forget that they also have to produce about 500,000 DS units per month.  On top of all that they have to create new production lines to get ready for the Wii Lite we'll all be buying in the next year or two.
