CP Layout
« on: March 31, 2008, 11:26:12 am »
I'm building a cabinet for a friend and I'm struggling with spinner location.  I have basically the same layout Knievel inspired but my spinner is above the trackball and I have a few more admin buttons on mine.  I can't count the number of times I have smacked my fingers on the spinner.  Currently I have it above player 1 buttons.  Any suggestions for spinner location?

That's similar to where I have mine and I regret putting it there because I have to keep my arm elevated above the first player buttons while I use it...

Here's what I'm designing for our CP:

It's based on the specs provided by arcadesrfun.com, as I'll be ordering from them when we're ready. I think it's a nice spot for the spinner; doesn't look like it will be in the way of anything, and the 3 buttons by the trackball can double as mouse buttons.

(edit: updated the pic, as I'm constantly tweaking/adjusting it  ;D   )

So a leper walks into a bar and as he gets his beer, a finger falls off. The bartender who is serving him turns and pukes all over the place. The leper, feeling bad, says, "Was it my finger falling off?" The bartender turns to him and says, "No, it's the guy dipping chips into your back."

I've got mine above P1 joy - not quite centered, biased a bit to the left.  The joystick does not actually interfere, due to the way my arm bends outwards, to elbow, and back towards the spinner.  For those used to right handed spinner games (I think Tempest is one) - it may take some getting used to, but it works for me.  Right now the CP is just sitting on my desk (no cab yet), so perhaps when standing at a real cab it will be more of an issue  :dunno

After mocking it up 2 or 3 time I settled on this.  One of the main reasons is TRON.  The spinner does not get in the way of player one at all.

Careful what you wish for you may get it!!
There are 10 kind of people in the world those that understand binary and those that do not!!
