Trackball, Highball or No?
« on: March 02, 2008, 11:54:41 pm »
Getting a partlist together and came up to the trackball, looking at the HAPP 3" trackball, should I go highball or not? There will be plexi on the CP if that makes a difference. Thanks

Jon

I personally don't care for the highBALL ones.
The highball ones raise the ball out of the CP, so that more of the ball sticks up out of the whole.

The highLIP ones are good when you are going over them with plexi.
The highlip ones have the whole assembly raised up a bit to compensate for the plexi on top, so that the ball feels just like a normal one would without the plexi.
If you mount them without plexi on the top, there is a spacer that goes underneath that will push the assembly down into the CP farther.

I actually prefer the Highballs.  It seems like you have more hand on the ball = more control.  You're also less likely to get a good hand pincher going on with the ball and the lip.

Edit: Oh and I automatically win the vote because I have 3 trackballs.

Hmmm, decisions, decisions. Anyone know if they make the high lip with a blue translucent ball that can be lit from below? how high is the lip on the high lip....I take it the lip is to compensate for the plexi?

anyone else have input?

I like the highlip, because the highball pinches me more, the highball comes off the rollers more often, and the sides of the ball is too vertical for me.

I think it's the differences in the way we interface with the ball.

Hah, I beat you. ;)  My 3" TBs (one each): happs normal, happs highlip, happs highball, benson highlip, and wico old school. and two 2 1/4" TBs: wico (like Ultimarc's) & a PC kensington expect mouse TB.
