3D cabinet build guide

As some of you may have seen in my previous posts my intended cabinet was CAD designed, I have been playing with the idea of animating it to produce a 3D cabinet build guide.  I messed around with it last night and came up with this quick and dirty example (360Kb)

The idea would be that the final video would have a simple voice over and maybe an accompanied document containing a list of parts and their dimensions.

All measurements on my cabinet design are my own; any design similarities are purely visual. When designing the cabinet I just view tons of other cabinets and thought

Mine, too was grabbed from bits of other cabinets (obviously the rotating part from 1UP), but I designed the rest of the cab myself according to what 'looked' right.   Unless it's a showcase or giant simpson's-type 4-player cab they all look pretty much the same

I love the AVI.  Sometimes a visual really really helps!

There are more people who offer their designs for free then who charge for them.  So go for it!

Hey GSX did you use global illumniation lighting when rendering that?  (what package did you use by the way?)

If we could get Kevin Steele to do the postproduction with the Voice Overs, that generic pr0n0 sounding background music,  and a few sound effects (kinda like the sounds in warcraft 2 when they are buliding something zug zug!)

Jakobud/AceTKK, The modelling and animation was done in 3DS Max, and when I rendered the above clip I ran it through Brazil.

I think it would be a great idea, and extremely helpful to folks who are getting started in the whole cab building world. I wouldn't worry about the "charging for plans" thing. As was said earlier as long as you're using orignial designs those that are charging for the same service will just have to deal with it or start offering their plans for what they were originally distributed for (free).

I say keep up the great work and good luck with the rest of your build.

Definitely a worthwhile project.  I don't know how in depth you were looking to go with this, but I'd at least show an inside shot of the case or two.   It's looking great.  Hopefully you decide to continue!

That's pretty cool. At the end, it should rotate around the cab and show it from all angles, so that people could work out what everything does.

Personally, if I were building based off those plans I'd like to be able to get my hands on the .3ds file so I could open it up in 3d Studio and rotate and zoom wherever I want/needed to.
