Cabinet Plans

Hi

I just can't seem to find a plan that I'm happy with.  Most of the plans available all have these huge control panels.  Apart from Mameroom.com, where else can I get plans?  I kinda like the Ultimate Arcade II from mameroom, but once again the control panel is just way to big.  I'm looking for one with just 2 joysticks, 6 buttons each and 1 & 2 player buttons.  Nothing else.

Any suggestions or recommendations?

The control panels are the easiest part of cabinet plans to modify.  If you find a set of plans where you like everything except the control panel, then just change the control panel until it's something you do like.

How about checking out lucid's or saint's cabinet plans.  These are basic (read: classic) designs and easy to tweak here and there to get a look that's somewhat unique.

This is what I did for my second cabinet.  It's essentially lucid's with a few modification (on a smaller scale).

Plans? We don't need no stinkin plans... 

Seriously, why not just sketch out what you would WOULD be happy with on graph paper and post it here? I am sure lots of folks would be happy to make suggestions on your design...

Once you have something that you think will work, grab some MDF and a router and cut it out... Unless you are trying to duplicate a classic cab, there is no right or wrong to the design... This site has lots of folks  willing to suggest good  solutions if you happen to run into a particular problem while building, and you will end up with something really unique and all your own..

I'm looking for something basic.  In our arcades we get a lot of these:



This would be perfect, only problem is I have a 21inch monitor, so the cabinet might end up being a bit too big.  Then I saw this one:



Not exactly what I want, but with the smaller bottom part, you can have a big monitor but the whole cabinet won't look so huge.  Anyone seen something similar?

So are those cabs somewhere where you can go measure one? Can you find a cabinet locally that is not in working order? If that is what you want, it may be easier to just purchase one and gut it.  Or you can measure it and just build one from scratch. I don't think that design would be too hard to duplicate. Of course if you scratch build it, you can modify it just a touch to accomodate your monitor if the original is just a tad too small..

I'm currently using Mameroom's control panel designer to help with my single player+trackball+spinner layout.  Maybe that program would help you in designing the CP you're looking for once you know what cabinet plan you're going with.
