Which trackball mounting plate do I need
« on: January 14, 2008, 09:42:00 pm »
I bought a trackball from e-bay which was described as a Happ Golden Tee trackball.  But I am trying to figure out what I really got, and which mounting plate I need to order.
First, it came with a blue translucent ball and led instead of the white ball only option of golden tee.
It came with the 95-1828-00 Golden Tee Black Plastic Spacer
The top half of the case if part number 95-1604-00 which according to the Happ website is for the 3" highball
The bottom half of the case is part number 038040-01, which I cannot find anywhere
The overall height of the whole case is about 2.5" (not the 2.17" of the highball)

So, does anyone know just what trackball I have, and more importantly, which mounting plate I would need to order.

Thanks

Post some pics of the top and profile of your trackball?

What you have there is the Happs 3" High Lip trackball. The spacer you have is optional... you don't have to use it. When mounted the lip around the ball will protrude up through the plate. This is good if you want to add plexi to your panel and make it flush with the lip. If you don't want to do that and don't like the lip poking up then you can use the spacer to lower it down.

The mounting plate you need is listed here:
http://www.happcontrols.com/trackballs/55110100.htm

I bought the 3" clear zinc for mine. I believe the black one has a slightly hammered or "mottled" finish to it. I could be wrong though. But the zinc one is perfectly smooth.

You basically want part no.55-1101-00  or  55-1102-00. I'm not sure about the Golden Tee PGA Tour one. Don't confuse the "High Ball" plates at the bottom of that list with your High Lip trackball. They aren't right for you. The hole is too big on those plates for yours.

You basically want part no.55-1101-00  or  55-1102-00.

LeadsFan is correct.  You have the highlip model.  You can tell because your top piece of the case steps to the lip, and the lip is ~3/16" tall, and the outside diameter of the lip is 3".

You can get the piece # 55-0321-00, 55-1101-00, 55-1102-00, or even 56-5530-00.  I like the one LeadsFan got too (55-1102-00, zinc) because it's a little smaller than the 55-0321-00 (Golden Tee PGA Tour Version, zinc), but if you aren't going to cover the plate with CP overlay (or paint), get 55-1101-00 (black).  55-0321-00 (Golden Tee PGA Tour Version) is the "extra rugged" version, but the plate is bigger than the others and you don't really need this version unless you really really pound you TB.

No.

He needs the highlip, look at his pictures and this:
The left is the highlip, the right is the highball.  He has the highlip

I got the Electric-ICE trackball from GGG.  I am assuming I just need the standard 3''trackball mounting plate from HAPPS, right (part 55-1101-00 or 55-1102-00)?

Hmmmm.... I really don't know. I've just been to the GGG site and looked at the Electric-Ice trackballs section, but nowhere does it mention the trackball mounting plate. I don't know if they are based on a Happs design or another like Betson. I bought Happs and used a Happs plate. I couldn't say if a Happs plate will work for you. I'd get clarification from someone here before buying. You might even get one with it free?  :dunno

beware divemaster's recommendations...

i ordered the standard 3" happs trackball mounting kit for my ggg trackball under his recommendation...

it turns out that the screws are too short to mount the trackball to the mounting plate...so now i have to send it back to him or buy longer screws...

The GGG is based on a betson trackball, per my Happ rep who has been doing this for 25 years, the Betson trackballs will fit the happ regular 3" mount.  Over 5 years of doing arcade work, I have sold dozens of the 3" mount for the betson trackballs & have never had a issue 1.  Unless Randy has changed something recently that I am unaware of the these work fine.  I am sorry you are having a issue with your mount as I stated yesterday return the order I will issue a full refund including your shipping

I would suggest just buying the longer screws.... It'll cost less than a dollar and since you already have the mounting plate, you won't have to wait around to order it again.

You can get the screws anywhere.  Certainly going to be the easiest solution here.  Just my two cents.

I agree with HoopZ about going out and buying the screws needed. You can probably get them at home depot for a buck.

As for what Divemaster has said, I have the happ mount with a betson trackball and it fit just fine. This is assuming that the betson trackball is the same as the electric-ice.

Same here.

One note: The screws I got with the kit barely made it on betson and happs TBs.  Less than 1/8" of the screw actually engaged thread.  (I bought it years ago, but I can't see how the screws could be shortened without not working on happs TB, too.)

So I went and bought 1/4" longer screws for less than it would cost to ship the kit back (not that I even thought of shipping it back).  Don't need black screws; they can't be seen unless you're looking under the CP.  Just get the any screws with the same size and threading.
