Terminator: Sarah Conner Chronicles *SPOILER WARNING*
« on: January 13, 2008, 05:58:33 am »
New made for TV series airs tonight. (I think its on FOX at 7:00 pm Central.)
I wonder if it will be a sad production, or live up to the Terminator movie series?

Edited to add link a website about it.

From what I've seen on the previews, john and his mother will be befriended by a teenage female terminator who, just like arnie in T2 has a strange emotional attachment to them.  The bad guy terminator is also quite young but a guy, who btw isn't big and muscular like arnie, or cold and sinister looking like the t-1000 and thus comes off looking like a tool.  Now on top of all of this, these terminators, which by all reports have SUPERIOR powers and blend in better arrive between t2 and t3?  So your telling me after those all those failed attempts which will amount to the entire series by the time we get to t3 time they send an inferior female terminator and the resistance only manages to get ahold of the, at that point, ancient t-250 model?

Keep in mind I realize that time-travel isn't linear so they can do stuff like that, but it never stopped the writers of the films from thinking in such a limited linear style. I mean, if it were me, after the first failed attempt (terminator 1)  would have sent a terminator back to when Sarah Connor was a child, or better yet an infant.  While Sarah and her son ae decidedly special and able to fight back, there isn't any indication that her parents are.  Even if a good terminator would have been sent to fight back, it's a lot harder to protect an aging couple with a defensless child in tow.

It'll be about as good as the blade tv series nobody watched.  (Which is not very good at all.)

I have asked those same questions about going back farther in time to kill Sarah's ancestors.
The first movie sorta led you to think that they only got one shot at the time travel (well two, since arnie and Reese both came through. Remember when reese was being interrogated he told them the resistance blew up the time machine after he went through (I think.) Second movie blew that idea out of the water.)
But also, I think it was mentioned that skynet had limited information about Sarah. It had no record of her before the first movie. (Remember Arnie had to look up her address in the phone book, and started by killing all the listed sarah conners.)
This could explain why they didnt time travel back to sarah's parents or grandparents.
Anyway, I have followed the terminator movies since the first. I will watch the series preview tonight, God willing.

I sure hope it's not a bomb, like the Blade series, man that did suck hind *it, didnt it?

Or maybe Sarah would have just grown up with a lightning bolt-shaped scar on her forehead.

Are there no attractive actresses left in Hollywood?  First the Bionic Woman was an unattractive cow and now both actresses in the Sarah Connor Chronicles are below average.  WTF?

I just looked up Sarahs age on imdb and she is 34, which means she's a little young for the part, but not by much.  I didn't recognize her in the show, but she's been in quite a few movies before this.  The biggest movie she was in was as the wife/queen in 300.

Sorry, I'm a geek, not a nerd.  Firstly I'm not old enough to have played D&D (born in 79) and secondly I was too busy with friends and some resembalance to a life to play something so involved.  It's the same reason I avoid MMRPGS like the plague.

I thought the show was respectable, but some things did seem off.  The actress playing Sarah Connor just seemed too young in comparison to her role.  The people who played the part of the Dysons looked perfect in terms of age since Terminator 2.  But I think Sarah Connor was too young and didn't look "beat up" like Linda Hamilton did after the years in the Pennitentiary and fighting off of the Terminators.

I'm not going to say the show is 'crappy' right away, but I'm not giving it too many props yet.  I see a lot of potential here, but I also see a lot of stuff that just doesn't make sense.  (The substitute teacher and following scenes, are an example).

I still thought the chick playing the female terminator was kind of hot and it would be nice to see more of her "goods".   ;) ;D

Wait how did they travel in time and why in the first ep?  I missed that part but got back when they were standing in traffic.

Actually im kinda disappointed they didnt show the future war scene like in all the movies before the ep started.

I think BW - Michelle Ryan - is very pretty...and her little sister in that show has a young Denise Richards look...which I also like.  The girl Terminator isn't bad looking...she isn't really programmed to smile too much I guess.

And I agree that Sarah just doesn't look the part...I've already said she looks too young...but now I think she also looks to "soft"...Linda Hamilton had some serious workout going on and was in much better shape.  I guess this takes place after T2...after Sarah had a chance to sit back and suck down some Bon Bons as a celebration?

I guess I'll be the resident idiot for this post, but my wife and I thought it was fantastic. Perhaps it is just that we don't get into comparing ages, etc. in relation to the look of Hamilton's Sarah vs. the new lady. (edit) We love Sci-Fi and we found this to be a wonderful hearty dose of it.

What I was most pleased with was that they didn't tone done the suspense or action a great deal for TV....my greatest fear was that they would "talk us to death" instead of actually doing anything... as per the V television series that aired after the two mini-series.  V, the series failed because they lost all the special effects, including the wierd voice manipulation, and the storyline just went to hell with the earthman (played by Nathan Lane) making a "deal" with the visitors.

I really didn't want to see that happen to the Terminator series....personally I thought it was a good pickup from the end of T3 (by what I recall of it).  Those complaining about the Terminator robot might want to go back and look at the date -the time period last night for most of the show was 1999.  We have YET to see the look of the robots for 2007, with the exception of the protective one.  Would that have changed the type of Terminator?

Anyway, I hope it had a good showing and is around for a while.  There sure isn't anything else worth a cuss playing with this writer's strike going on.

Second episode was fantastic!
The differences between this version and T3 are starting to make sense.
And the girl terminator (tin man as sarah calls her) is starting to take on a human like personality.

I just watched the first episode and the police report says that Sarah is 33. The actor playing John Conner is 20 years old. Guess the kid is a tad old for his character.

It's not as bad as in That '70s Show where the actors who play the kids are 30 years old or older.

I didn't think the first episode was terribly exciting.

I didn't understand why they keep doing these high profile things while they are trying to stay hidden ("rob" a bank with no masks, appear in the middle of a highway buttnaked and just stand there while they are being taped). Besides, something from the future would have police reports and thus would know where all the attacks take place. So every time they fight something from the future would know where they are and potentiall get there ahead of time. Ah well, when time travel is involved I guess anything goes.

Really, she's only supposed to be 33?  I figured the kid was supposed to be at least 16, and if she's 33 then she would of had him at 17, which means she would of been 16 or 17 in the first terminator movie, and that doesn't make sense because she was at least in her early twenties in that movie.  Thats why I figured she was just a little young for the part.  Whatever, if I can suspend disbelief about killer robots from the future, then minor age discrepancies shouldn't be a problem  :)

I've got to admit, after actually seeing it I rather enjoyed it.  I actually preferred the pilot (which had a major t2 vibe) to the second episode.  I honestly wonder how they are going to keep this going into a whole series though.  Unless terminators are sent in left and right I just don't see how they are going to have anything to fight after a few episodes.

There were a couple of things that bugged me though.  First off, the teminator that got blew up in the pilot just magically flys back together?  That's total b.s! If that trick worked then there wouldn't have been a t2 as the original terminator would have just snapped his legs back on and killed Sarah!.  And after that he just goes around with clothes on and nobody notices?  They are in L.A.! How can a man wearing ski goggles and a face mask in L.A.  even amoung homeless people not stand out like a sore thumb?  Also it seems extremely unlikely that they could build a time machine with 1960's parts.  Unless the key to time-travel turns out to be vaccuum tubes and reel to reel computers.  It also bothered me that their long time smuggling buddy would just sell them out like that.  He must be a real ass, because from what I understand John basically grew up around him.

I also like the guy who plays John this time around.  He seems alot more like the t2 actor and a lot less like the t3 actor (thankfully).  The woman who plays sarah I could do without.  She's not even a poor man's linda hamilton.  Thankfully, even though she's the official lead, this seems to be more of an ensemble cast.  Also summer is in it.  Thank god for summer.  Me loves me some summer.  My obsession with Summer Glau borders on peale's obsession with Michelle Trachtenberg.  I've gotta say you really don't get to see her grow as an actor though.  She went from psycho genius killing machine to mildy retarded killing machine.  That's type-casting if I've ever seen it.  Thankfully though, she is very attractive.  I have to watch the show now even if it stinks.  :)

Anyway, I really wish they would have marketed this better.  I'm seldom off the mark on if a show is crap or not based on the previews alone and this one threw me for a loop.  The previews had far too many close-ups of the new male termintor and the new sarah, which made you think "lame cash-in" and not enough shots of action and/or actual acting ability.  So anyone who was thrown off by it please go watch it as it's great! Actually watch it even if you hate it, because this is a new fox series so we'll be lucky if 15 epiodes are produced before they can it.  ;)

Agreed.  I thought the show was going to be horrible, but I decided to give it a chance since nothing else was on.  I really surprised at how good the show has been so far, I just hope they keep it as good as it is.

The old terminator coming back to life was pretty dumb, I thought they would make it so the old terminator and the time machine was going to be analyzed by Cyberdyne and was the reason why skynet was still invented, kind of like how the original terminator was the original reason skynet was invented.  Oh well, they've done a good job with the rest of the show so lets just see where they go with it.

I just watched the first episode and the police report says that Sarah is 33. The actor playing John Conner is 20 years old. Guess the kid is a tad old for his character.
I looked it up again (somewhere around 12 minutes into my recording)and the funny thing is that the police report does not show a birthdate. Only an age.

The computer that the FBI guy looks up her info:

and the display that the Terminator sees:

The old terminator coming back to life was pretty dumb, I thought they would make it so the old terminator and the time machine was going to be analyzed by Cyberdyne and was the reason why skynet was still invented, kind of like how the original terminator was the original reason skynet was invented.  Oh well, they've done a good job with the rest of the show so lets just see where they go with it.

Well I figured that the head would re-active and send out a beacon that attracted the new termintor.  That would have, you know, been actually possible and would have made sense compared to what they did.  Then he could have uploaded all the data and bam!  Old terminator in new body!

Saw the second part. I have to say it's starting to pick up a little.

Indeed it seems illogical here and there. As far as you can talk about "logical" when you get into the whole timetravel mess. Obviously when a terminator gets ambushed it will record this (ie notify the future bots) and they send a terminator back from the future so that it gets there 15 minutes earlier and ambushes the ambush  :P

Why does the resistance manage to send a whole militia back through time, while the evil bots send only a lonely terminator?

Also in "real time" situations it's sometimes illogical though. I was wondering what the use was of the two robots fighting (the fembot and the terminator). These fight scenes are becoming pretty boring. They just slap each other silly and throw each other through walls with no effect at all. To make matters worse, the terminator decides to run away, they all chase the terminator, Sarah throws a bike at his feet and the terminator is taken out. Seriously  ::)

I liked it.  Then again, I'm not looking for an interactive immersive space time bending white whole spewing time bit of continuity perfection.  I just want to be entertained for 45 minutes.

And I spent much of the second episode watching the female terminator's chest heave.

On a related note... anyone hear that Christian Bale (Batman Begins/The Dark Knight) has been tapped to play John Connor in the T4 movie?

Nah man... Weaver is a mutulated cow, even in her prime, compared to Summer.  It's all in the eyes man.

I've got a question though...how does the Terminator's head time travel?  The three lose their clothes because we all know that only living things can pass through...yet the head makes it through unscathed?

That kinda killed it for me...I understand they did that to fill the part about the present day terminators not knowing what they look like and all, but if in episode 2 they are gonna start breaking their own rules...what's next?

Yeah that one was bizarre too. I didn't quite get what happened. It looked like it traveled with them. Maybe the nuclear ray gun blast that severed the head somehow pushed it through the time portal  :P

Beside how do the robots get through the time portal to begin with? Because they are covered in skin? If so then just stuff a cow full of weapons and send that through. Or hide weapons inside the terminators.
